The present invention relates to devices and methods for transporting a Blow Out Preventer (BOP). A device for transporting and installing a BOP stack for a land-based drilling rig, comprises a skid for transporting a BOP stack in a substantially horizontal position. The device comprises a moveable support configured to be fixed removably to one end of the BOP stack and to translate longitudinally on the skid, where a section of the skid is extendable longitudinally outwards from an end of the skid, into an extended configuration in which the section can placed adjacent to or on a place of installation of the BOP stack, and is configured to be part of the skid on which the moveable support is configured to translate, so that the moveable support may translate longitudinally onto the section of the skid, in its extended configuration, to be above the place of installation.

Systems and methods for initiating an emergency disconnect sequence

Systems and methods for initiating an emergency disconnect sequence (EDS) are provided. In an aspect, a disconnection system is provided and configured to initiate the EDS, and includes a controller including a processor and a memory operably coupled to the processor. The controller receives, from a set of motion reference units (MRU(s)) operably coupled to a flexible joint, position data generated by the set of motion references units and associated with the joint when the joint is operably coupled to and disposed between a drilling riser and a lower marine riser package (LMRP). The controller determines, based on the position data, an angular offset of the joint. The controller sends, to a subsea control pod disposed at or adjacent to the LMRP, a trigger signal in response to determining that the angular offset exceeds a predetermined threshold, such that the subsea control pod initiates the EDS.

Linkage test apparatus for deepwater drilling riser and hang-off system

The present invention relates to a linkage test apparatus for deepwater drilling riser and hang-off system. The linkage test apparatus includes a motion excitation system, a hang-off system and a riser system. The motion excitation system includes a six-degree-of-freedom excitation platform and sensors. The hang-off system includes a hydraulic cylinder actuating mechanism and a hydraulic system. The hydraulic cylinder in the hydraulic cylinder actuating mechanism is composed of an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder and it is fixed on the six-degree-of-freedom excitation platform by a spider. The inner cylinder of the hydraulic cylinder is hollow. A hang-off joint passes through the center of the inner cylinder, and a bottom of the hang-off joint is connected to the riser system via a rotating flange. The riser system is successively connected by multiple riser test joints, and the bottom is suspended with a lower marine riser package model.

An apparatus and method for measuring position and magnitude of downhole mechanical friction. The apparatus comprises sensors that reside along, or in-line with, a section of equipment that is installed or removed from a wellbore. The sensing device is configured measure relative to the wellbore during a work-over or other well intervention procedures where said section of equipment (tubing, rods, drill pipe, etc.) is installed in, or removed from, the wellbore. Recorded measurements are then processed to correct for dynamic forces to provide a measure of friction through the portions of the wellbore where said equipment travels. The sensing can be done near the source of friction, or at some distance through a mechanical connection. A method for determining depth and magnitude of downhole friction is also provided. Additionally, a method for applying the map of wellbore friction to the design and analysis of a rod actuated pump is presented.

The top drive system includes a traveling carriage that is vertically mobile along one or more vertical rails of the drilling tower by a vertical motion drive. The system also includes a top drive unit supported by said carriage and including a top drive motor and a rotary torque output member. The system further includes a tripping operation elevator that is adapted to be engageable with a drilling tubulars string or drilling tubulars stand, e.g. with the top end thereof, in order to perform tripping operations. The top drive unit and the tripping operation elevator are each mobile relative to the traveling carriage, and wherein the top drive system is provided with one or more actuators adapted to cause said relative motion of the top drive unit and of the tripping operation elevator so as to provide a drilling mode and a tripping mode.
