Straddle packer with fluid pressure packer set and automatic stay-set
11525328 · 2022-12-13 · ·

A straddle packer has a floating auto-J sleeve that automatically shifts the straddle packer from a run-in condition to a stay-set condition after pumping of high-pressure fluid into the straddle packer in excess of a predetermined pump rate is terminated. In the stay set condition, packer elements of the straddle packer remain in sealing contact with a well casing or well bore into which the straddle packer has been run.

Fish retrieval from wellbore

An apparatus includes a housing, engagement slips, a tubular, a taper tap, a pin, and a slip activation member. The housing includes a profile that defines a path including a first end and a second end. The engagement slips are attached to the housing. The tubular passes through an opening of the housing. The taper tap is rotatable and connected to the housing. The pin is connected to the tubular and received by the profile of the housing. The tubular is translatable with respect to the housing based on the pin translating along the path defined by the profile. The slip activation member is connected to the tubular. The slip activation member is configured to move each of the engagement slips radially outward with respect to the housing when the pin translates to the second end of the path.

Apparatus and method for conveying a tool into and/or from a well installation

An apparatus (10; 110; 310) for conveying a tool (12; 112; 312) into and/or from a well installation (W) comprises a conveying arrangement (16; 116; 316) configured for coupling to a housing (14; 114; 314) for receiving the tool to be conveyed (12; 112; 312). The conveying arrangement (16; 116; 316) includes an actuator arrangement (28; 128; 328) configurable between a retracted configuration and an extended configuration. The apparatus (10; 110; 310) is configured for location on a wellhead (WH) of the well installation (W), movement of the actuator arrangement (28; 128; 328) between the retracted configuration and the extended configuration moving the tool to be conveyed (12; 112; 312) into and/or from the housing (14; 114; 314) and thus into and/or from the well installation (W).

Pivot coupling

The present invention relates to a wireline retrieval head assembly and downhole tool, the wireline retrieval head assembly for coupling to the downhole tool for installation in and retrieval from downhole in a mineral industry field of use, wherein a first of the wireline retrieval head assembly and downhole tool has a retention member that has or is configured to receive a pivot member and a second of the wireline retrieval head assembly and downhole tool has a complementary link with an opening for receiving the pivot member, such that the link can be coupled to the retention member to create a pivot coupling to allow for articulation between the wireline retrieval head assembly and the downhole tool during installation and retrieval of the downhole tool, and the link can be removed from the retention member to remove the downhole tool from the wireline retrieval head assembly.

Deployment of downhole sensors

A sensor assembly includes a patch with a wall configured to be seated in a well casing. A sensor is mounted to the wall of the patch. The wall of the patch can define a central passage therethrough configured to allow passage of downhole tools therethrough. The wall of the patch can be expandable from a first compressed diameter to a second expanded diameter. The wall of the patch can include at least one of a corrugated expandable structure, a stretchable structure, and/or an internally trussed expandable structure, for example.

ENTERING A LATERAL WELLBORE IN A MULTI-LATERAL WELLBORE WITH A GUIDE TOOL
20220381117 · 2022-12-01 ·

A method and a lateral entry guide tool for deploying a work string in a wellbore defining a window and a lateral wellbore extending from the window are described. The work string and the tool are run through the wellbore to a distance above the window. A locator subassembly is activated to detect the window. The tool is run through the wellbore in a downhole direction from the distance above the window past the window. After the locator subassembly indicates that the tool is past the window, a window entry depth is determined based a depth at which the window was detected. The work string is pulled back to position the tool at the window entry depth. A positioning subassembly is activated. The work string is run through the window while adjusting and calibrating the positioning subassembly as the work string pass through the window into the lateral wellbore.

Methods for well construction and completion

There is provided a method for well construction comprising the steps of: a first phase of the well construction, in which a bottom hole assembly, BHA, with a first drill is used for drilling, and a conductor casing is lowered into the well and cemented; a second phase of the well construction, in which a second drill is used for drilling, wherein a production adapter base, PAB, is installed in parallel with lowering a blowout preventer, BOP; and a third phase of the well construction in which a third drill is used for drilling, for the steps of landing and geonavigation inside a reservoir.
