Freeing a stuck pipe from a wellbore
A method of freeing a stuck pipe includes positioning a pipe freeing tool within the wellbore at a location proximate the stuck pipe, the pipe freeing tool including a downhole conveyance; and an arm coupled to the downhole conveyance, and activating the arm of the pipe freeing tool to apply a force to an external surface of the stuck pipe, wherein the force moves the stuck pipe away from a surface of the wellbore and towards a center of the wellbore. Another method of freeing a stuck pipe from a wellbore includes positioning a pipe freeing tool within the wellbore at a location proximate the stuck pipe, the pipe freeing tool including a jack device and a set of wheels coupled to the jack device, and activating the jack device of the pipe freeing tool to apply a force to an external surface of the stuck pipe.
Method and materials to convert a drilling mud into a solid gel based lost circulation material
A convertible composition comprising a nanosilica drilling fluid, the nanosilica drilling fluid comprising an aqueous based drilling mud, where the aqueous based drilling mud comprises water, and an alkaline nanosilica dispersion, where the alkaline nanosilica dispersion comprises nanosilica; and a chemical activator, the chemical activator operable to hydrolyze in the presence of water to produce an acid, where a weight ratio of the alkaline nanosilica dispersion to the chemical activator is between 1 to 0.001 and 1 to 0.25.
Positioning downhole-type tools
One downhole-type tool of a set of interchangeable downhole-type tools is interchangeably received by a pump-down adapter. The downhole-type tool is positioned by the pump-down adapter within a wellbore tubular. The downhole-type tool is released by the pump-down adapter.
DRILL PIPE WITH DISSOLVABLE LAYER
A drill pipe for drilling operations includes: a dissolvable layer deposited on a portion of an outer surface of the drill pipe; and a tunnel connected to the dissolvable layer.
Electronic releasing mechanism
A releasable tool using an electronic motor to drive a differential to engage or release a quick change sub that may be coupled to additional downhole tools, such as a perforating gun string.
Electronic releasing mechanism
A releasable tool using an electronic motor to drive a differential to engage or release a quick change sub that may be coupled to additional downhole tools, such as a perforating gun string.
Downhole fishing tool
An oil or gas well fishing tool (60). The downhole fishing tool (60) has a receptacle (61) that is open at one end. The tool also has deployment tool engaging means (62), located on the opposite end of the receptacle (61) to the one end. The tool further has a layer of an alloy (64) provided on the interior surface of the receptacle (61). The alloy is a eutectic alloy and/or a bismuth alloy. The tool further comprises heating means (65) to heat the alloy (64) so that it melts and can flow over any object received within the receptacle (61).
Drillstring with a bottom hole assembly having multiple agitators
A method comprising determining a property of a first section of drill pipe that is to connect a first agitator to a second agitator in a bottom hole assembly of a drill string, determining a distance between the first agitator and the second agitator based, at least in part, on the property of the first section of drill pipe, positioning the first agitator in the bottom hole assembly of the drill string, and positioning the second agitator in the bottom hole assembly of the drill string relative to the first agitator based, at least in part, on the distance.
Patch for Joining Downhole Ends of Pipes
A downhole tool for joining a string of pipe to a tubular already downhole with a seal element made of metal or metal alloy with a melting point lower than the melting point of the tool and tubular but higher than the temperature of expected downhole operating conditions.
Buoyancy assist tool with overlapping membranes
A downhole apparatus has a casing string and a degradable plug positioned in the casing string to block flow therethrough. An upper membrane covers an upper end of the degradable plug. The upper membrane is made up of a plurality of separable membranes. A lower membrane covers a lower end of the degradable plug and is comprised of a plurality of separable membranes.
