Three or more overlapping sealing members arranged circumferentially around a passage in a supporting body form an annular seal around a pipe inserted into the passage.

Apparatus and method usable for open-water rigless and riserless plug and abandonment (P and A) work

In one system, there is an emergency pipe stroker tool, wherein the emergency pipe stroker tool is configured to act as a first mechanical barrier for a well. Further, there is an emergency quick disconnect tool in communication with the emergency pipe stroker tool, wherein the emergency quick disconnect tool comprises a connector assembly and a fluid conduit in communication with the well, and further wherein the connector assembly is configured to simultaneously detach from the well and to seal the well. Further still, there is a cement retainer in communication with the emergency quick disconnect tool and the emergency pipe stroker tool, wherein the cement retainer is configured to act as a second mechanical barrier for the well, wherein, the emergency pipe stroker tool, the emergency quick disconnect tool, and the cement retainer act in coordination to seal a well while establishing the multiple mechanical barriers.

Multi-material seal having a seal body and core

A system may include a seal including a seal body having an exterior with a seal interface. Additionally, the system may include a core disposed internally within and surrounded by the seal body. A gas permeability of the core may be less than a gas permeability of the seal body, a coefficient of thermal expansion of the core may be less than a coefficient of thermal expansion of the seal body, or a combination thereof.

Drilling method for drilling a subterranean borehole

An apparatus for drilling a subterranean wellbore using a drill string. The apparatus includes a riser, a sealing device arranged in the riser so as to form a first riser chamber and a second riser chamber, and a riser booster pump. The riser at least partly contains the drill string and defines a substantially annular space around the drill string. The second chamber is in a fluid communication with the riser booster pump so that a kill fluid stored in the second riser chamber may be maintained at a first pressure which is greater than a second pressure of a drilling fluid in the first riser chamber.

Multi-component aqueous gel solution for control of delayed gelation timing and for resulting gel properties

A method of using a water based solution having a controllable gel time. The method includes providing a predetermined ratio of a water soluble silicate solution having at least one alkali metal, providing a predetermined ratio of a water dispersible polymer, and providing a predetermined ratio of a water soluble initiator containing a reactive carbonyl compound. One embodiment of the method also includes combining the water soluble silicate solution, the dispersible polymer, and the water soluble initiator and injecting downhole in a single stage treatment. Another embodiment of the method includes pre-mixing at least the water soluble silicate solution and the dispersible polymer into a mixture, then injecting the water soluble initiator and the mixture downhole separately for a multi-stage treatment with in situ mixing.
