Systems and methods for controlling blade tip clearances

A system for controlling blade tip clearances in a gas turbine engine may comprise an active clearance control system and a controller in operable communication with the active clearance control system. The controller may be configured to identify a cruise condition, reduce a thrust limit of the gas turbine engine to a de-rated maximum climb thrust, determine a first target tip clearance based on the de-rated maximum climb thrust, and send a command signal correlating to the first target tip clearance to the active clearance control system.

SYSTEM AND METHOD OF COMPRESSOR INLET TEMPERATURE CONTROL

A system includes a compressor having a compressor inlet, a turbine having a plurality of stages disposed within a turbine casing, and a turbine extraction gas (TEG) heating system. The turbine is configured to drive the compressor via expansion of combustion products through the plurality of stages. The TEG heating system includes a turbine gas extraction system coupled to the turbine casing and to the compressor inlet. The turbine gas extraction system is configured to receive a portion of the combustion products as a turbine extraction gas (TEG) from the turbine. The TEG is received through the turbine casing, the TEG heating system is configured to supply a heated flow to the compressor inlet, and the heated flow includes the TEG.

Closed loop control employing magnetostrictive sensing

Systems and methods for turbomachine control based upon magnetostrictive sensor measurements are provided. A turbomachine (e.g., a compressor) can be instrumented with at a sensor configured to measure an operating parameter, and a magnetostrictive sensor configured to acquire a torsional measurement (e.g., torsional vibration and/or torque) of a turbomachine shaft. An analyzer can receive the operating parameter measurement and torsional measurement and determine an updated operating parameter limit and/or an updated exclusion zone based upon the torsional measurement for control of the operating parameter.

Strain gauge and accelerometer measurement for thrust estimation

An improved system, apparatus and method for estimating thrust from an engine, and more specifically, a system for estimating thrust from strain gauge and accelerometer measurements. At least one strain gauge is mounted on an engine mount to measure strain to estimate a constant velocity or steady-state portion of thrust. At least one accelerometer is mounted on the vehicle to measure acceleration to estimate a transient portion of thrust. Steady-state thrust estimation and transient thrust estimation are combined to estimate thrust from the engine. An algorithm provides steps for estimating thrust from strain gauge and accelerometer measurements.

Gas turbine engine probe cooling

A gas turbine engine has a housing exposed to a high temperature environment. The housing has a circumferential wall extending around the engine centerline and circumscribing an oil cavity. The wall has a sealing interface at an inner diameter thereof, the sealing interface having a central axis offset from the engine centerline. A boss is formed on the wall on the offset side relative to the engine centerline and a probe is mounted to the boss. The probe projects into the oil cavity. The oil in the oil cavity thermally shields the probe from the high temperature environment.

Radio frequency waveguide system including control remote node thermal cooling

A radio frequency waveguide communication system includes a guided electromagnetic transmission network, and a cooling air source. The guided electromagnetic transmission network includes one or more remote node in fluid communication with one or more waveguides. The cooling air source is in fluid communication with the guided electromagnetic transmission network and is configured to provide pressurized cooling air to the waveguide. The waveguides direct the pressurized cooling air to the remote node.

An assembly for an aircraft turbine engine includes a fan drive reduction gear and a lubrication system including: a reduction gear housing; a lubricant tank; a lubricant supply circuit including a feed pump; and a lubricant recovery circuit including a pump for recovering lubricant from the reduction gear housing. The recovery circuit includes a lubricant distributor, including: a lubricant inlet communicating with a lubricant outlet of the housing; an air inlet; and a distributor outlet, the distributor being able to adopt a lubricant recovery configuration and a configuration for retaining the lubricant in the housing.

A system for controlling an angular position of a component of an aircraft includes a component having a shaft that includes at least one magnet. The system also includes a housing configured to receive the shaft and including at least one coil configured to generate a magnetic field based on a current through the at least one coil.
