TWO STROKE, OPPOSED PISTON ENGINE WITH COMPRESSION RELEASE BRAKE ARRANGEMENT AND METHOD
A two-stroke, opposed-piston engine includes a cylinder with an inlet piston controlled inlet port and an exhaust piston controlled exhaust port, the cylinder defining a combustion chamber with the inlet piston and the exhaust piston, a charge air channel in flow communication with the inlet port, a conduit extending directly from the combustion chamber to the charge air channel, and a valve arranged to selectively open and close flow communication through the conduit.
Actuation apparatus
An actuation apparatus for actuating a component of a switchable valve train device of an internal combustion engine including: a shaft; an actuation lever mounted on the shaft for pivotal motion of the actuation lever between a first position for actuation of the component and a second position for de-actuation of the component; and a biasing means for urging the actuation lever from the second position towards the first position. In use, the biasing means is biased when an actuation source attempts to cause the actuation lever to be in the first position when the component is non-actuatable, such that the biasing means causes the actuation lever to pivot from the second position to the first position, thereby to actuate the component when the component becomes actuatable again.
TYPE II VALVETRAIN AND HYDRAULIC ENGINE BRAKE ARRANGEMENT
A Type II valvetrain and engine brake arrangement includes a hydraulic brake housing mountable to a valve block of the engine. A brake piston is coupled to a brake rod and a brake cam lobe and is movable between an activated position and a non-activated position. A finger follower is disposed relative to the brake housing so that the brake rod engages the finger follower at least when the brake piston is in the activated position. When the brake piston is in a non-activated position, the finger follower is configured to pivot about a pivot as the finger follower follows a valve cam lobe to effect lifting and seating of a cylinder valve of an engine cylinder. When the brake piston is in the activated position, the finger follower, at least in part, pivots from about the pivot and the brake rod engages an end of the finger follower to lift the cylinder valve and release compression from the engine cylinder.
Method for controlling an actuator
A method for operating an electromagnetic actuator (10) with an actuating pin (9) is proposed which comprises the following steps: —determining a pin actuation actual dead time (t11), during which the magnetic armature (15) is substantially immobile while a magnetic coil (12) is supplied with current, wherein the actual dead time ends with the current break-in at the magnetic coil, as a result of counter induction of the magnetic armature overcoming the magnetic force threshold; —determining, before a subsequent pin actuation, the starting time of the magnetic coil current supply, wherein the starting point of the current is advanced compared with that of the target movement start of the pin out of the actuator housing (13) and the determined actual dead time.
Oil passage for supplying oil
An oil passage which supplies hydraulic oil to a cylinder deactivation apparatus (CDA) that operates by hydraulic pressure may include a high pressure passage, a low pressure passage, and an orifice, all of which may be integrally formed in either a cylinder head or a cam carrier. The high pressure passage may be connected to an oil supply apparatus and receive oil therefrom. The low pressure passage may be coupled to the high pressure passage and receive pressurized oil therefrom and form a low pressure relatively lower than a pressure in the high pressure passage. The low pressure passage may be connected to supply a hydraulic pressure to the CDA. The orifice may couple the high pressure passage to the low pressure passage, communicate the high pressure passage and the low pressure passage and may be formed to supply oil from the high pressure passage to the low pressure passage.
Rocker arm
A dual body rocker arm for controlling a valve of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine includes: a first body; a second body; and a latching arrangement moveable to latch and unlatch the first body and the second body. The latching arrangement includes: a latch pin moveable between a first position in which the latch pin latches the first body and the second body together and a second position in which the first body and the second body are un-latched; and a lever mounted for pivotal motion relative to the first body, a first end of the lever contacting the latch pin, and a second end of the lever configured to contact an actuation arrangement. In use, when the actuation arrangement exerts a force on the second end of the lever, the lever pivots such that the first end of the lever exerts a force on the latch pin.
System and method for improving cylinder deactivation
Systems and methods for operating an engine with deactivating and non-deactivating valves are presented. In one example, estimates of engine fuel consumption for operating the engine with a plurality of cylinder modes or patterns while a transmission is engaged in different gears are determined and are used as a basis for deactivating engine cylinders.
Multiple variable valve lift apparatus
A multiple variable valve lift apparatus may include a camshaft rotating by driving of an engine, a cam portion formed in a cylindrical shape having a hollow that the camshaft is inserted into, rotating together with the camshaft, configured to move along an axial direction of the camshaft, and forming a zero cam and a normal cam, a valve opening/closing device configured to be operated by at least one of the zero cam or the normal cam which are formed at the cam portion, an operating device disposed on an exterior circumference of the camshaft so as to move together with the cam portion, and a solenoid configured to selectively move the operating device along an axial direction of the camshaft, in which a journal, which has a radius being equal to a radius of the zero cam, is formed at the cam portion.
