Charge changing control device, reciprocating engine and method for operating a charge changing control device
The present invention refers to a charge changing control device for a reciprocating engine, comprising at least one cam follower configured for being pivotably actuated around a pivot axis (P) upon rotational movement of a camshaft, and an adjustment unit configured for setting at least three different charge-changing modes of the device by translationally displacing the pivot axis relative (P) to a rotational axis (R) of the camshaft.
VALVE TRAIN SYSTEM FOR EXTENDED DURATION INTAKE VALVE OPENING
A variable valve timing assembly is provided for extending a duration of an intake valve opening. The variable valve timing assembly includes an intake rocker mounted on a pedestal and operable by a cam lobe to open and close the intake valve. The intake rocker includes a lever extension, and a holding member in the pedestal is lockable in position by a hydraulic circuit in the pedestal to contact the lever extension of the intake rocker and hold the intake valve in the open position. A reset pin in the pedestal is actuatable by the cam lobe to release the holding member to allow the intake valve to close.
Extended coast and controlled deceleration using cylinder deactivation
A method for controlling vehicle speed comprises selecting an engine speed profile for a vehicle. Road grade data is received and processed to determine a road grade for the vehicle. Vehicle speed data is received and processed to determine a vehicle speed for the vehicle. A cylinder deactivation mode for a valvetrain of a multi-cylinder engine of the vehicle is selected. The cylinder deactivation mode comprises deactivating one or more intake valve, exhaust valve, and fuel injection for one or more cylinder of the multi-cylinder engine. The selected cylinder deactivation mode provides a controlled deviation from the selected engine speed profile at the road grade and vehicle speed.
Latch pin for use in valve lifter and valve lifter
Shown is a latch pin for use in a valve lifter and a valve lifter including the same. The latch pin for selectively latching within a pin chamber provided in the valve lifter is configured as a whole as a cylindrical pin with one end in the shape of a spherical crown, wherein a stepped flat is formed on radially one side of said one end and is dimensioned to be received within the pin chamber to engage with an axial latching surface thereof. On the top side of said one end, a first relief is formed by beveling the spherical crown, and on the radially other side opposite to the stepped flat across said first relief, a second relief is formed by beveling the spherical crown, wherein the second relief radially adjoins the first relief and circumferentially adjoins a remaining pin face in the shape of the spherical crown.
FORMED OUTER ARM FOR ROCKER ARM ASSEMBLY
A method of cold forming an outer arm of a rocker arm assembly in a cold forming machine includes providing a slug having a first end and a second end, extruding the slug at the first end to establish two different widths of the slug, compressing the slug to form an upper angled surface and a lower angled surface at the second end, and compressing the slug to form an inner arm window defined by a pair of side walls and a pair of end walls.
Lost motion variable valve actuation systems and methods
A compact, modular, lost motion variable valve actuation assembly includes a dry start hydraulic circuit to enable quick priming of a lost motion master-slave circuit from a dry start reservoir to the master piston chamber during engine start. Motion of the master piston on engine startup may draw in fluid from the dry start hydraulic circuit. The dry start components may be integrated into a compact modular rocker shaft pedestal package suitable for retrofit on existing engine head assemblies. The master piston may include a push tube interface that includes a deep push tube cavity and lubrication capabilities in the master piston that provides for improved wear, stability, easy installation and alignment. The slave piston may be provided with a valve catch to reduce valve closing velocity during cycles involving lost-motion.
Type II valvetrain and hydraulic engine brake arrangement
A Type II valvetrain and engine brake arrangement includes a brake housing defining a hydraulic circuit and a follower piston chamber and a brake piston chamber. A follower piston in the follower piston chamber is configured to follow a rotating brake cam lobe. A brake piston in the brake piston chamber is in pressure responsive relation with the follower piston to move. A finger follower is disposed so that a brake rod coupled to the brake piston engages the finger follower at least when the brake piston is in an activated position. When the brake piston is the activated position, the finger follower pivots from a first end about a pivot as the finger follower follows a valve cam lobe to effect lifting and seating of a cylinder valve. When the brake piston is activated, the finger follower, at least in part, pivots from the first end about the pivot and the brake rod lifts the cylinder valve and released compression from the engine cylinder.
Internal-combustion engine and drive system
In an exemplary embodiment, an internal combustion engine, in which a valve is opened and closed when a piston reciprocates in a cylinder, has a configuration to perform repeatedly the following combined strokes: an intake stroke.fwdarw.a compression stroke.fwdarw.a combustion stroke.fwdarw.an exhaust stroke in a four-cycle internal combustion engine are combined with an intake and compression stroke.fwdarw.a combustion and exhaust stroke in a two-cycle internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine can reduce pumping loss in a six-cycle internal combustion engine and increase the output.
Valve gear for a combustion engine of a motor vehicle
A valve gear has a cam shaft with a firing cam and a braking cam. A first cam follower is allocated to the firing cam with the first cam follower being provided in a firing operation for actuating a gas exchange valve. A second cam follower is allocated to the braking cam with the second cam follower being provided in a braking operation for actuating the gas exchange valve. A changeover device switches between the operations and has a tilting lever mount having a pivotably mounted mounting element on which a tilting lever belonging to the first cam follower and a tilting lever belonging to the second cam follower are pivotably mounted. The tilting lever mount has two mounting screws respectively having a ball head and the ball heads each form a ball joint together with a ball head receiver of the allocated tilting lever.
Rocker arm motion detection for diagnostic feedback and control
A method of operating an internal combustion engine having an electrical circuit that includes a connection closed by abutment between two distinct parts, one of which is mounted to a rocker arm of a rocker arm assembly and another that is mounted to a part distinct from the rocker arm. The connection is structured such that the movement of the rocker arm causes relative motion between the surfaces of the distinct parts that close the connection. The relative motion causes the circuit resistance to transition between values within a first range and values within a second range. The transitions of resistance between those ranges are detected and their presence, absence, or timing used for purposes of providing diagnostic feedback or control.
