A height of the lateral guide cheeks (3, 4) can be changed with regard to the support plate (5) by an embossing procedure.

The body can further define a slot formed at the receiving channel. The anti-rotation device can include a guide plug received in the receiving channel of the body. The guide plug can extend outwardly from the outer peripheral surface of the body. The guide plug can be configured to locate into a bore slot defined in a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine. The clip can be received by the slot and captured the guide plug in the receiving channel.

The engine assembly further includes an exhaust valve movable between a first position blocking fluid communication through the exhaust passage and a second position allowing fluid communication through the exhaust passage. The exhaust valve includes a pressure relief apparatus configured to allow fluid communication through the exhaust valve from the cylinder bore to the exhaust passage when the exhaust valve is in the first position and a predetermined pressure threshold occurs in the cylinder bore between the exhaust valve and the piston.

A valve lift assembly is operatively associated with a respective one of the cams and a respective one of the valves to transfer motion from the cam to the valve by reciprocal motion of the valve lift assembly along a lift axis. The assembly includes a follower and a follower control mechanism. The follower is disposed in contact with the cam at a contact point that defines a contact path extending along a surface of the cam as the cam rotates about the camshaft axis. The follower is moveable through an adjustment range to change the position of the contact point along the contact path at a given angular position of the cam. The follower control mechanism is operable to control the movement of the follower within the adjustment range.

In an embodiment, the locking elements comprise wedges having at least one wedge inclined surface defined according to a cone frustum and configured to engage an outer recess formed in a housing, the outer recess comprising an outer recess inclined surface also defined according to the cone frustum. The device may comprise a locking mechanism disposed within a housing bore in the housing and a snubber also disposed in the housing bore. Furthermore, the outer recess may be configured to permit movement of the locking element along a longitudinal axis of the housing bore.
