The tappet assembly includes a bearing assembly having a shaft and a bearing rotatably supported by the shaft for engaging the lobe. An intermediate element has a first aperture, a shelf for engaging the fuel pump assembly, and a pair of arc-shaped bearing surfaces rotatably engaging the shaft when the bearing engages the lobe and the shelf engages the fuel pump assembly. An annular body has a second aperture and at least one stop member abutting the intermediate element to align the first aperture with the second aperture. An anti-rotation clip is disposed so as to extend through the apertures and cooperates with the stop member to substantially prevent rotational and axial movement of the intermediate element with respect to the body.

A variable valve actuation device includes a plurality of valve lifter. Each valve lifter slidable in a lifter support hole between an upper position and a lower position. A valve rest recess communicating with a valve rest chamber opens out at an outer circumferential surface of the valve lifter, and a valve rest supply port of a valve rest passage opens out at an inner circumferential surface of the lifter support hole in such a positional relationship that the valve rest passage and the valve rest chamber communicate with each other when the valve lifter is at the upper position, and continue to communicate with each other until the valve lifter has moved downward to a shut-off position located at a prescribed part of a down stroke from the upper position. The communication between the valve rest passage and the valve rest chamber shut off at the shut-off position.

The present disclosure relates to fuel systems. Some embodiments of the teachings may include a fuel pump comprising: a pump piston having a longitudinal centerline; a camshaft with at least one cam; a roller tappet arranged between the pump piston and the cam; and a tappet body and a roller rotatably held on the roller tappet. The pump piston and the tappet body may be movement-coupled with regard to movements in directions parallel to the piston longitudinal centerline. The roller may be in contact with the cam. The longitudinal centerline may intersect a geometric axis of rotation of the roller. The tappet body defines a tappet body longitudinal centerline parallel to the piston longitudinal centerline. The tappet body longitudinal centerline, in a projected view oriented parallel to the geometric axis of rotation of the roller, runs with a lateral spacing to the piston longitudinal center line.

ENGINE VALVE LIFTER OIL FLOW CONTROL AND ANTI-ROTATION FEATURE

An engine roller lifter for use in a valve train of an internal combustion engine and constructed in accordance to another example of the present disclosure includes a body having an outer peripheral surface configured for sliding movement in a bore provided in the engine. The bore is supplied by an oil passage communicating therewith. The body can define a transverse passage. A groove can be formed around the body and inset from the outer peripheral surface. A connecting channel can be formed in the body and inset from the outer peripheral surface, the connecting channel fluidly connects the groove and the transverse passage. A roller bearing can be rotatably mounted to the body and configured for rolling contact with an engine camshaft. Oil received at the groove from the bore flows along the connecting channel, into the transverse passage and onto the roller bearing.
