A method for operating a drive device which includes a drive unit and an exhaust gas purification device arranged in an exhaust gas line for purifying exhaust gas from the drive unit. The exhaust gas purification device is heated at least temporarily by an electrical heating assembly, which includes a heating element for heating a fluid and a bypass line branching off the exhaust gas purification device from the exhaust gas line on the one hand and opening into it on the other hand, in which a fluid pump for conveying the fluid through the exhaust gas purification device is arranged.

Generation of electricity from exhaust gas

A turbo-generator system generates electricity from the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine 1. The electric current generated by the generator 11 (e.g. a switched reluctance machine) is controlled so as to maintain the turbine 3 at a first pre-set rotational speed. The amount of electric current demanded from the generator 11 is limited or reduced if the electrical system 17 cannot accept a greater electric current or if the exhaust gas pressure upstream of the turbine 3 is too great. In such cases, the proportion of the exhaust gas permitted to bypass the turbine 3 is controlled so as to maintain the turbine 3 at a second pre-set rotational speed that is slightly greater than the first. The turbine's preset speeds are chosen to maximize electrical generating efficiency and for turbine safety. The system maximizes the amount of electricity generated, avoids excessive exhaust gas back-pressure on the engine 1, and avoids overloading the electrical system 17.

Exhaust gas purification apparatus, and method for thawing liquid reducing agent or precursor thereof
09732650 · 2017-08-15 · ·

An exhaust gas purification apparatus includes: a reduction catalyst converter that reduces and purifies nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas; a tank that stores a liquid reducing agent or precursor thereof; and an injection nozzle that injects the liquid reducing agent or precursor thereof stored in the tank on an exhaust gas upstream side of the reduction catalyst converter. Some of the exhaust gas flowing through an exhaust pipe is diverted to the tank by a bypass pipe, to cause an exchange of heat between the diverted exhaust gas and the liquid reducing agent or precursor thereof stored in the tank, thereby thawing the liquid reducing agent or precursor thereof frozen in the tank.

Exhaust gas purification device

In an exhaust gas purification apparatus provided in an exhaust as path of an engine, it is an object of the present invention to shorten a pipe length of a bypass path bypassing a purification catalyst as short as possible, thereby reducing initial costs. The exhaust gas purification apparatus includes a purification casing in which at least the purification catalyst is accommodated. The purification catalyst purifies exhaust gas from the engine. The purification casing is integrally provided with the bypass path separately from the purification path in which the purification catalyst exists. The bypass path makes the exhaust gas bypasses the purification catalyst without passing through the purification catalyst.

Exhaust-gas purification device

An exhaust-gas purification device includes an injection nozzle provided inside an exhaust pipe and a catalyst reactor provided on a downstream side of the injection nozzle, and is configured to inject urea water from the urea water injection nozzle into exhaust gas and to reduce nitrogen oxide in the exhaust gas by a NOx catalyst contained in the catalyst reactor, where the injection nozzle is disposed to inject the urea water toward the downstream side of the flow direction of the exhaust gas, and a mixer is connected to an upstream end of the catalyst reactor, the mixer having a plurality of plate members radially disposed around the axial center of the exhaust pipe, the plate members each being formed in such a way that angles of plate surfaces of the plate member to the flow direction are different values on the upstream side and the downstream side.
