METHOD OF MODIFYING AN ENGINE OIL COOLING SYSTEM
20200072115 · 2020-03-05 ·

A method of modifying the oil cooling system of a diesel engine includes the steps of removing the original equipment liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger and installing a manifold having a configuration adapted to match the mounting configuration of the oil passages of the original equipment liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger. The manifold has an oil outlet port directed to a remotely mounted oil cooler. The manifold also has a water passage having a configuration that is adapted to match the mounting configuration of the water passages of the original equipment liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger. The water passage causes the entirety of the flow of water to be discharged back to the water cooling system of the engine where it is circulated by the water pump through the water cooling passages in the engine.

BASE FLUID FOR HEAT MEDIUM, HEAT TRANSFER SYSTEM USING THE BASE FLUID, AND HEAT PUMP SYSTEM USING THE BASE FLUID

A base fluid for heat medium contains a hydrophilic ionic liquid and water. A molecular weight of the hydrophilic ionic liquid is at or below 150. The hydrophilic ionic liquid is methylammonium nitrate. Since the ionic liquid has favorable thermal stability, the thermal stability of the base fluid for heat medium can be secured. Since the molecular weight of the hydrophilic ionic liquid is at or below 150, the base fluid for heat medium has a low kinematic viscosity. Further, since the freezing point depression effect can be obtained by dissolving the ionic liquid in water, a low freezing point can be realized.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

An internal combustion engine includes: an oil filter that is mounted to a mounting surface formed on a crankcase and clarifies an oil flowing in; an oil cooler that is disposed on a front side of the crankcase, cools the oil flowing in from the oil filter and returns the oil into a flow path in the crankcase; and a bracket formed on a front wall of the crankcase and having the mounting surface. An outflow port through which the oil flows out toward the oil cooler and an inflow port through which the oil flows in from the oil cooler are disposed in the bracket. Accordingly, in the internal combustion engine, routes of oil passages can be simplified as much as possible.

INTERNALLY COOLED HIGH COMPRESSION LEAN-BURNING INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
20200003112 · 2020-01-02 · ·

An internally cooled internal combustion piston engine and method of operating a piston engine is provided, with the combination of liquid water injection, higher compression ratios than conventional engines, and leaner air fuel mixtures than conventional engines. The effective compression ratio of the engines herein is greater than 13:1. The engines may employ gasoline or natural gas and use spark ignition, or the engines may employ a diesel-type fuel and use compression ignition. The liquid water injection provides internal cooling, reducing or eliminating the heat rejection to the radiator, reduces engine knock, and reduces NOx emissions. The method of engine operation using internal cooling with liquid water injection, high compression ratio and lean air fuel mixture allow for more complete and efficient combustion and therefore better thermal efficiency as compared to conventional engines.

In a dynamometer device (1), a dynamometer (5) is placed on a dynamometer-side bed (6), and the dynamometer-side bed (6) is stacked on a tank-side bed (15) located on the top part of a bed tank (3). The dynamometer (5) is connected to the bed tank (3) by an oil discharge pipe (9) which returns a cooling oil (2) to the bed tank (3) from the dynamometer (5). The oil discharge pipe (9) passes through an interface (23) between the dynamometer-side bed (6) and the tank-side bed (15), and extends into the bed tank (3).

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR EXPEDITED VEHICLE SOAK

Methods and systems are provided for rapidly cooling an engine system of a vehicle at vehicle-off events. In one example, a method may include cooling the engine system via selecting whether to rotate a cooling fan in a first direction or a second direction based on an indication of whether temperature of the engine system decays at a faster rate under conditions where the cooling fan is rotated in the first direction as compared to the second direction, or vice versa. In this way, diagnostics that rely on static, low-noise conditions may be conducted for vehicle-off conditions that are not sufficiently long to allow for sufficient engine system cooling in a timeframe of the vehicle-off condition.
