A lice removing apparatus and method of using it are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a flexible fabric sheet having a pair of pockets defined on a first side of the sheet adjacent opposite ends of the sheet. A second side of the sheet includes a plurality of projections, or other physically coarse material, that strip nits from a person's hair when passed there over. A user inserts his fingers and thumb into the pockets, folds the sheet around a lock of hair, and runs the sheet along the length of the hair while squeezing the folded sheet into constant contact with the hair. Thereafter, the sheet is discarded and a new one is used for cleaning a subsequent lock of hair. The sheets may be stored in a contained in a manner that provides easy access for grasping the sheet and removing it from the container with one hand.

A plurality of hair styling elements extending generally away from the body are mounted on the exposed surface of the rotatable base for rotation relative to the body with the rotatable base. A method of styling hair includes rotating the rotatable base and the hair styling elements thereon while at least some of the hair styling elements are in contact with a person's hair.

Disclosed is a gripping apparatus for use by a user to immobilize hair strands associated with tangled hair in order to decrease damage to the hair strands when detangling. The apparatus includes a first jaw rotatably connected to a second jaw. The first and second jaws have first and second plates, respectively, to engage the tangled hair. The first and second plates include ridges, that also define grooves, to increase the surface area of the plates. The first and second jaws can be rotated between an open position to receive hair strands and a closed position to immobilize hair strands. The ridges on the first jaw are offset from those on the second jaw so that, in the closed position, the ridges on the first jaw are received in the grooves of the second jaw and the ridges on the second jaw are received in the grooves of the first jaw.

The drive shaft coupling generally includes a drive gear and a driven gear, with one of the drive gear and driven gear having a biasing member to allow axial translation. The device has a plurality of substantially opposing flexible pillars with a space or gap separating the opposing pillar ends. The plurality of opposing pillars may be tilted or angled in one direction such that by swiping one's hand or finger in a direction opposite to the pillar tilt reduces the gap dimension and tends to trap loose hair, while swiping one's hand in the direction of the pillar tilt increase the gap dimension and allows the loose hair to be removed for proper disposal.
