Dual-fuel combustion method and system
A method of operating a dual-fuel combustion system includes reciprocating a piston between a bottom dead center and a top dead center of a cylinder, the piston including a piston bowl, a circumferentially extending recess located radially outside of the piston bowl, and a plurality of diverters in the recess. The method includes opening an intake valve to introduce a first fuel, and injecting, by a set of fuel injector orifices substantially aligned with the diverters, a second fuel toward the diverters. The method also includes autoigniting the second fuel to ignite the first fuel.

Control device for engine
A control device for an engine is provided, which includes a fuel injector attached to the engine, a spark plug disposed to be oriented into a combustion chamber, a swirl control valve provided in an intake passage, and a controller connected to the fuel injector, the spark plug, and the swirl control valve and configured to control the fuel injector, the spark plug, and the swirl control valve. The swirl control valve closes in a given operating state of the engine. The fuel injector injects fuel after the swirl control valve is closed, between intake stroke and an intermediate stage of compression stroke. The fuel injector injects the fuel after the first fuel injection. The spark plug performs the ignition after the second fuel injection so that the mixture gas starts combustion by flame propagation and then unburned mixture gas self-ignites.

Controller and control method for fuel injection timing of internal combustion engine
A controller executes an advancement process for advancing an injection start timing by a direct injection valve to a larger extent when a coolant temperature that is a temperature of coolant in an internal combustion engine is greater than or equal to a preset temperature than when the coolant temperature is lower than the preset temperature. The advancement process includes a retardation process for setting a smaller advancement amount at the injection start timing when a lubricant temperature that is a temperature of lubricant is lower than a predetermined temperature than when the lubricant temperature is greater than or equal to the predetermined temperature.
INTAKE-AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLING DEVICE FOR ENGINE
An intake-air temperature controlling device for an engine is provided, which includes an engine body, an intake passage, an air intake part, an intake air temperature adjuster configured to adjust air temperature taken in through the air intake part to the passage, and a controller. An operating range in which the CI combustion is performed has a lean operating range in which A/F of mixture gas formed inside the cylinder, or G/F that is a relationship between the total weight G of gas inside the cylinder and a weight F of fuel fed to the cylinder is relatively low, and a rich operating range in which the A/F or G/F is relatively high. When the engine is in the lean operating range, the controller outputs a control signal to the intake air temperature adjuster so that the air temperature is increased, as compared in the rich operating range.
COMPRESSION IGNITION ENGINE
A compression ignition engine includes: a naphtha injector for supplying naphtha to a combustion chamber; a diesel fuel injector for supplying diesel fuel having a higher boiling point than naphtha; an ignition device for assisting ignition of an air-fuel mixture; and a PCM connected to the naphtha injector, the diesel fuel injector, and the ignition device. When the diesel engine is cold, the PCM supplies only naphtha out of naphtha and diesel fuel, and assists ignition of an air-fuel mixture formed by naphtha.
PREMIXED COMPRESSION IGNITION TYPE ENGINE WITH SUPERCHARGING SYSTEM
When the geometric compression ratio of an engine body is set to 13:1 or more and the engine body operates in a preset high load region, the effective compression ratio of the engine body is set to 12:1 or more with a difference from the geometric compression ratio being within 2, a gas to be introduced into a combustion chamber is supercharged by a supercharging system, fuel is injected at least in a compression stroke by an injector, and after the fuel injection is finished, an air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber is ignited by an ignition device before the compression top dead center and is thus burned by flame propagation in the engine body, and then the unburned air-fuel mixture is burned by compression ignition.
