A Substance Dispenser and a Method of Providing a Substance Dispenser The invention provides a substance dispenser for dispensing a metered amount of a substance such as a cream or gel, other viscous or non-viscous substance, the dispenser comprising: a first housing member defining a handle for the dispenser; a cream containing chamber arranged to slide telescopically with respect to the handle member, the cream containing chamber having a nozzle opening at a first end, from which cream is, in use, dispensed; a bearing at the second axial end; and a shaft rotatably fixed with respect to the handle and arranged to pass through the bearing such that upon rotation of the handle with respect to the cream containing chamber, the cream containing chamber and the handle move telescopically with respect to each other such that, the substance containing chamber moves axially within the handle to force cream through the nozzle opening, wherein movement of the handle with respect to the cream containing chamber is indexed so as to dispense a predetermined volume of cream in dependence on a rotation thereof.

Systems for preserving a cosmetic formulation and for preventing growth or survival of microorganisms on a cosmetic formulation include a cosmetic container and a cosmetic formulation disposed therein and having an argon gas reservoir which is formed within the cosmetic formulation such that rupturing the reservoir releases argon gas onto an adjacent cosmetic-air interface and displaces oxygenated air therefrom. Methods for manufacturing and preserving a cosmetic formulation include preparing a cosmetic formulation that is free of exogenous chemical preservatives but may contain natural preservatives, forming the argon gas reservoir, and sealing a container containing the cosmetic formulation in a nonvacuum, argon gas environment to form an argon gas blanket in the container headspace. The argon gas reservoir can be formed as microbubbles or a chimney of argon gas disposed vertically in the container or as other discrete pockets within the formulation and/or container.

The sheath and the plate that can be replaced or refilled, while the bottle body, screw member, cover body of the cosmetic package can be retained for reuse.

The cosmetic package further includes a bottle body and a screw member that is secured inside the bottle body such that the screw member does not have any axial or rotational movement relative to the bottle body. The replaceable cartridge comprises a sheath and a plate housed within the sheath. The sheath is rotatably engaged to the screw member, and moves up and down along the length of the screw member to hide or expose the cosmetic product housed in the sheath. The plate is stationary relative to the screw member when the sheath moves up and down. The sheath and the plate that can be replaced or refilled, while the bottle body, screw member, cover body of the cosmetic package can be retained for reuse.
