Gaseous fuel pumping system

In high horse power engines there are strict energy budgets allotted for each subsystem. It is a challenge for a gaseous fuel pumping system to supply the necessary gaseous fuel mass flow to the engine while staying within budget. A method for pressurizing a gaseous fuel supplied to an engine comprises providing first and second hydraulically actuated pumping apparatus comprising first and second shuttle valves in first and second hydraulic pistons respectively; and selectively communicating hydraulic fluid flow to the first and second hydraulically actuated pumping apparatuses. In a first mode hydraulic fluid is communicated through the first hydraulically actuated pumping apparatus to the second hydraulically actuated pumping apparatus. In a second mode hydraulic fluid is communicated through the second hydraulically actuated pumping apparatus to the first hydraulically actuated pumping apparatus. The method switches between the first and second modes when a pressure drop in hydraulic fluid pressure associated with the hydraulic fluid flowing through the first and second shuttle valves is detected.

Intelligent power allocation systems onboard hybrid combines and associated methods

Embodiments of an intelligent power allocation system include a ground traction undercarriage controllable to propel a hybrid combine over terrain, a separator device configured to separate grain from other crop material ingested by the hybrid combine, a mechanical powertrain including an internal combustion engine, and an electric drive subsystem containing a rechargeable battery pack and a motor/generator (M/G). A controller architecture is configured to monitor a current separator load placed on the hybrid combine when driving movement of the separator device during active harvesting. The controller architecture further selectively places the intelligent power allocation system in a separator power splitting mode in which the M/G and the internal combustion engine concurrently drive movement of the separator device based, at least in part, on whether the current separator load exceeds an upper load threshold.

Multifuel automotive engine-derived systems for clean grid load balancing and non-grid electricity applications

Modestly modified automotive engine powered generator systems to substantially improve capability for providing renewable electricity powered grid reliability and energy storage are disclosed. The use of these engines to improve capability for non-grid electricity generation, including affordable and clean fast charging of electric vehicles, is also disclosed. In one embodiment, these automotive engines use high RPM and stoichiometric air fuel ratio operation so as to provide the advantages of substantially reduced cost and NOx emissions. These engines also have multifuel capability that provides highly flexible use of low carbon fuels (such as hydrogen, methanol and ammonia) as well as the use of present fuels that are widely available. When these low-carbon fuels are produced with excess electricity from the grid and supplied to the grid when there is an electricity-supply shortfalls, they can serve as a means of energy storage.

Engine device

An engine device of including: an intake manifold configured to supply air into a cylinder; a gas injector configured to mix fuel gas with air supplied from the intake manifold, and supply mixed gas to the cylinder; an igniter configured to ignite, in the cylinder, premixed fuel obtained by pre-mixing the fuel gas with the air; and a control unit configured to execute a combustion control of a premixed fuel based on the output signal indicative of an output from the engine device. When the air amount is determined to be insufficient and when the output signal is lost, the control unit estimates an output signal based on the fuel gas injection amount from the gas injector, and executes the combustion control based on the estimated output signal.
