A valve device increases or decreases a flow rate of EGR gas. The valve device includes a housing, a bypass valve body, an EGR valve body. The housing includes a first upstream passage into which the EGR gas cooled by an EGR cooler flows, a second upstream passage into which the EGR gas that bypasses the EGR cooler flows, a junction connected to each of a gas-flow downstream side of the first upstream passage and a gas-flow downstream side of the second upstream passage, and a downstream passage connected to the first upstream passage and the second upstream passage via the junction. The bypass valve body opens and closes the second upstream passage. The EGR valve body is provided in the downstream passage, rotates around an EGR valve axis.

Methods and systems for diagnosing operational status of a carbon filled canister heater are described. The methods and systems may include activating an evaporative emissions system heater, a pump, and a canister purge valve to determine if long chain hydrocarbons are released from a carbon filled canister. Release of long chain hydrocarbons from the carbon filled canister may be indicative of desired operation of a carbon filled canister heater.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL METHOD FOR THROTTLE AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL THROTTLE DEVICE
20230043206 · 2023-02-09 ·

An electronic control method for a throttle performed by an electronic control throttle device is disclosed. The electronic control method includes: generating, by the electronic control section, the control signal for the throttle with a sum of a proportional torque and an integral torque as a value of a torque command, by calculating an engine speed deviation from a difference between a calculated or input engine speed and an input engine speed command; calculating an engine rotational angular acceleration based on the engine speed; obtaining the proportional torque from a product of the engine speed deviation and a predetermined coefficient; and obtaining the integral torque by integrating the product of the engine speed deviation and the predetermined coefficient.

Equipment control system

A system and method monitor operation of a compressor, determine whether the operation of the compressor is outside of a designated range of values, and, responsive to determining that the operation of the compressor is outside of the designated range of values, one or more of (a) prevent communication of a signal to a system controller that controls operation of the compressor, (b) direct a gas from a reservoir to a pressure sensor used by the system controller to determine a gas pressure generated by the compressor, and/or (c) communicate the signal to the system controller that controls operation of the compressor.

Controller and control method for hybrid vehicle
11554770 · 2023-01-17 · ·

A controller for a hybrid vehicle controls an electric motor such that a motor torque is input to a crankshaft in order to compensate for a decrease in an engine torque when a cylinder deactivation control is executed, the decrease resulting from suspension of combustion in one or some of cylinders. The controller calculates an engine torque calculated value using an engine rotation speed, a motor rotation speed, and the motor torque. The controller diagnoses that the cylinder deactivation control is functioning normally when the engine torque calculated value is less than a torque determination value and diagnose that the cylinder deactivation control is not functioning normally when the engine torque calculated value is not less than the torque determination value during the execution of the cylinder deactivation control.

Noise, vibration and harshness reduction in a skip fire engine control system

A variety of methods and arrangements for reducing noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) in a skip fire engine control system are described. In one aspect, a firing sequence is used to operate the engine in a skip fire manner. A smoothing torque is determined that is applied to a powertrain by an energy storage/release device. The smoothing torque is arranged to at least partially cancel out variation in torque generated by the skip fire firing sequence. Various methods, powertrain controllers, arrangements and computer software related to the above operations are also described.

METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING A PART OF A POWERTRAIN SYSTEM

A method for diagnosing a part of a powertrain system is provided. The powertrain system comprising an internal combustion engine system having an internal combustion engine provided with a plurality of cylinders, each cylinder being provided with an air inlet valve and an exhaust gas valve, the method comprising the steps of operating any one of the inlet valve and the exhaust valve for any one of the cylinders to adjust the frequency and/or duration of air pulses during different load conditions of the internal combustion engine; determining an operational behaviour of the part of the powertrain system in response to the adjusted frequency and/or duration of the air pulses; and comparing the determined operational behaviour of the part of the powertrain system with an expected behaviour of the part of the powertrain system.

VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM

When an amount of particulate matters (PM) collected by a gasoline particulate filter (GPF) increases, a control processing unit (CPU) of an engine electronic control unit (ENG ECU) stops combustion control of some cylinders and executes a regeneration process to cause air-fuel ratios of air-fuel mixtures in the remaining cylinders to be richer than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. A CPU of a hybrid electric vehicle electronic control unit (HV ECU) increases a target rotation speed of an internal combustion engine when the regeneration process is executed. When executing the regeneration process, the CPU increases a filling efficiency of the internal combustion engine.

Intake bypass for liquid fuel engine

A fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine includes an air compressor, an air cooler connected downstream of the air compressor and the compressed air supply passage, and a bypass passage connected downstream of the air compressor. The fuel supply system also includes a fuel injector secured to the compressed air supply passage or secured to the bypass passage and a valve connected between the air compressor and the air cooler, the valve being configured to block a flow of intake air to the air cooler, causing the intake air to flow to the bypass passage or to permit the flow of intake air to the air cooler.

Methods and systems for cylinder diagnosis

Systems and methods are provided for diagnosing cylinders. In one example, a system includes an engine having a plurality of cylinders coupled to a crankshaft, a crankshaft speed sensor, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a first output from the crankshaft speed sensor during nominal engine operation, receive a second output from the crankshaft speed sensor during engine operation where a fueling disturbance is introduced to a cylinder of the plurality of cylinders, indicate that the cylinder is unhealthy responsive to a difference between the first output and the second output being less than a threshold difference, and adjust one or more operating parameters of the engine in response to the indication.
