EGR effective flow diagnosis method

An Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) effective flow diagnosis method includes: measuring an EGR gas temperature by an EGR gas temperature sensor under an EGR gas temperature rise condition of an EGR system on an intake line; determining the degree of the EGR gas temperature rise; and determining whether an EGR effective flow is excessive or insufficient according to the degree of the EGR gas temperature rise.

Method for determining a camshaft position in an internal combustion engine

A method for determining a combination of an actual intake camshaft phase position of an intake camshaft and an actual exhaust camshaft phase position of an exhaust camshaft of a production internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder, wherein the method is performed in operation of the production internal combustion engine and the relevant actual phase position of the camshafts is determined in relation to an operating point of the production internal combustion engine.

Disclosed is a reluctor plate controller that detects vacuum and pressures in the engine which are used to create digital motor control signals for controlling a reluctor plate actuator using a digital stepper motor, servo motor or a voice-coil actuator. The system can be programmed to create various desired responses that function to create better efficiency of an internal combustion engine, less pollution and/or greater engine output.

Method of operating a supercharged internal combustion engine

A method for operating a supercharged internal combustion engine. Before a cold start of the engine, an electric drive device of an electrically assisted exhaust-gas turbocharger of the engine is activated such that fresh air is compressed by a compressor of the turbocharger and, in the process, is heated and is conveyed via an open overrun air recirculation valve arranged downstream of the compressor, through a short circuit back to a suction side of the compressor of the turbocharger. A proportion of the air that is heated by way of the short-circuit operation of the compressor is, downstream of the compressor and upstream of a closed throttle flap of the engine, conducted via a secondary air system into an exhaust manifold and from there via a wastegate of the turbocharger into the catalytic converters of an exhaust-gas aftertreatment device of the engine.

Method for computer-assisted determination of multiple rotational irregularities in an internal combustion engine

Multiple rotational irregularities in an internal combustion engine are determined. An uneven running value of a currently-ignited combustion chamber in a logical ignition sequence of a plurality of combustion chambers immediately after a logically-preceding ignited combustion chamber is determined. The uneven running value determined for the logically-preceding ignited combustion chamber exceeds a specified threshold value and indicates a fault in the logically-preceding ignited combustion chamber. A compensation factor is determined that. A compensated uneven running value of the currently-ignited combustion chamber from the uneven running value of the currently-ignited combustion chamber and the compensation factor is determined. The compensated uneven running value of the currently-ignited combustion chamber is compared with the specified threshold value to determine whether the currently-ignited combustion chamber has a fault.

An embodiment device includes an auxiliary brake including a retarder selectively operated to consume an output of a transmission to generate a braking force and an engine brake selectively operated to increase a flow resistance of an exhaust gas discharged from an engine to generate a braking force, a gas flow volume controller configured to open or close flow paths of an engine intake line and an engine exhaust line, and a controller configured to compare a first braking force difference with a predetermined reference braking force when the auxiliary brake is operated during coasting traveling and to determine and control an opening rate of the gas flow volume controller based on the first braking force difference and an engine speed when the first braking force difference is less than the reference braking force.

Control method of securing CVVD startability and CVVD system therefor

A control method can be used for securing continuously variable valve duration (CVVD) startability when a CVVD error is recognized by a CVVD controller during an operation of a CVVD system. The control method includes performing engine startability securing control for solving the CVVD error by applying a starting air volume to starting of an engine through at least one of a valve position fixing value, a valve position threshold, or an immediately previous valve position value.
