A convertible hammock-shade tent configurable as a shade tent and a hammock has a sidewall panel comprising a plurality of perimeter sleeves, a plurality of perimeter apertures, and a pair of loops formed along the perimeter sleeves. Tent posts are provided wherein each tent post is attachable to the sidewall panel and has an end configured for securing the tent post to ground. One or more sand bags are provided for anchoring the tent. The sidewall panel may be alternately configured for use as a sidewall panel for a tent, as a freestanding shade tent, or as a hammock.

The secondary adjustable loop is used to hold a surfboard or other object securely in place and the fixed loop supports the surfboard from one of the user's shoulder allowing hands free operation. When not utilized as a carrier the device can be worn, such as a belt. The user keeps the fixed loop compressed together, wraps the carrier around his/her waist, through the loop buckle and then attaches it back onto itself. A personal flotation device can be attached to the strap element so that the carrier and personal flotation device form a single unit.

A fire starting canteen that has internal fire starting lenses. The lenses can be solid or water lenses. The canteen has two internal chambers, one for holding water and the other for holding water and forming a fire burning lens. The fire starting canteens can be combined reversibly or permanently to form an inner canteen and an outer canteen with larger water-carrying capacity and fire starting capability than a single canteen. The lenses are, preferably, convex but can also be concave or a combination of both. A divider in the interior of the canteen forms the two internal chambers. The divider has a convex shape and, in combination with the chamber filled with water, forms the fire starting lens.
