A machine having two interconnected wheels, one having hinged weighted arms that fall with gravity to rotate the wheel and store rotational energy for use in a connected shaft.

LIFT DRIVE SYSTEM FOR ENERGY STORAGE AND DELIVERY SYSTEM
20230009666 · 2023-01-12 ·

A lift drive system for an energy storage and delivery system includes an electric motor that rotates a driven shaft, a brake assembly for selectively braking the rotation of the driven shaft, and optionally includes a clutch selectively operable to decouple the electric motor from the driven shaft. A steel ribbon is disposed at least partially about and in contact with the driven shaft, where rotation of the driven shaft by the electric motor causes linear movement of the steel ribbon. The steel ribbon can connect at one end to an elevator cage assembly and at an opposite end to a counterweight.

SUBTERRANEAN ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM
20220402700 · 2022-12-22 · ·

A subterranean energy storage system configured to store and subsequently release potential energy. Storage of potential energy is achieved by the transfer of a pseudo fluid from a first storage tank to a second storage tank located above the first storage tank, and is subsequently released by the transfer of the pseudo fluid from the second storage tank to the first storage tank. To transfer the pseudo fluid between the first and second storage tanks, the subterranean energy storage system comprises at least one continuous conveyor mechanism extending through at least one transport shaft, wherein the at least one continuous conveyor mechanism comprises a plurality of vessels arranged along a length of the continuous conveyor mechanism. The subterranean energy storage system further comprises an energy transfer means operably connected to the at least one continuous conveyor mechanism to transfer power to and from the subterranean energy storage system.

Energy storage and delivery system

An energy storage and delivery system includes a crane elevator cage, where the crane or elevator cage is operable to move one or more blocks from a lower elevation to a higher elevation to store energy (e.g., via the potential energy of the block in the higher elevation) and operable to move one or more blocks from a higher elevation to a lower elevation (e.g., by gravity) to generate electricity (e.g., via the kinetic energy of the block when moved to the lower elevation). The energy storage system can, for example, store electricity generated from solar power as potential energy in the stacked blocks during daytime hours when solar power is available, and can convert the potential energy in the stacked blocks into electricity during nighttime hours when solar energy is not available, and deliver the converted electricity to the electrical grid.

Displacement device including force displacement mechanism with constant volume boot
11608810 · 2023-03-21 ·

A bi-level tank includes a transfer tank and a return tank containing a volume of water, including transfer and return components in the transfer and return tanks, respectively, and a transition component. A bellows couples an upper surface of a piston in the transfer tank to the return component that exerts pressure on the upper surface, while a lower surface of the piston is under pressure from a pressured fluid supplied by a source thereof, producing a pressure differential on the piston. Actuation of a force-applying mechanism on the piston sufficient to overcome the pressure differential displaces the piston for exchanging respective volumes of the return component and the fluid from the source. An extensible and retractable constant-volume boot holds the transition component around the bellows and has valves configured to open and close for equalizing pressure between the boot and the transfer tank.
