Modular building blocks may be used to provide furniture or other items. Each modular building block has a number of interleaved layers that provide first and second arms of the building block. Each modular building block comprises a first engageable finger section formed from one or more of the interleaved layers and a second engageable finger section formed from two or more interleaved layers. The second engageable finger section of one modular building block receives the first engageable finger section of another modular building block allowing various arrangements to be assembled.

The article of furniture uses a first panel with a dovetail tab and a straight tab and a second panel with a dovetail slot and a straight slot. The first panel is flexed in order to insert the dovetail tab and the straight tab into the respective dovetail slot and straight slot and is then un-flexed to complete the assembly.

A connection piece includes a connection rod and a buckle. An end of the connection rod is bent to form a hem, and a through hole is provided in the hem. A through groove is provided in the buckle, and an inner wall of the through groove is provided thereon with a block protrusion corresponding to the through hole. The connection rod and the block protrusion are tightly fastened and fixed into the buckle via the through hole. A bedframe includes the connection piece.

At their four corners, the first side panel (3) and the second side panel (4) have recesses (33, 34) and/or projections (19, 20, 21, 22), wherein these are recessed in the corner regions of the side panels (3, 4) extending substantially in the shape of an elongated rectangle into the edges (5) of the side panels, or extending out of the edges in the shape of an elongated rectangle and running at a right angle to each other in their directions of elongation at each of the corner regions.
