METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR A FASTENER HEAD HAVING A DUAL ZONE SOCKET AREA AND A MATING DRIVER BIT
20220034350 · 2022-02-03 ·

Methods and apparatus for a fastener head having a dual zone socket area and a mating driver bit according to aspects of the present technology include a fastener configured with driving surfaces adapted to provide enhanced engagement between each other during use. The fastener includes a recessed socket area with a sidewall that has an upper inwardly tapering section and a lower vertical section that extends to the bottom of the recessed socket area. The upper inwardly tapering section of the sidewall may also include an offset relative to the lower vertical section to create asymmetrical driving and removal surfaces. The technology also includes a corresponding mating driver bit configured with mating surfaces to the fastener to provide enhanced engagement between the fastener and mating driver bit. The technology also allows either the fastener or the driving bit to be used with preexisting fasteners and driver bits.

Assembly Improving, Low Mass, Fastener Head
20220307537 · 2022-09-29 · ·

A low mass fastener head that reduces the amount of material required in manufacturing. The fastener comprises a threaded shank having a longitudinal axis; a head attached to one end of the threaded shank, the head comprising: full-height lugs and short-height lugs positioned at approximately 0, 60, 120, 180, 240, or 300 degrees around the longitudinal axis of the threaded shank, wherein the short-height lugs are shorter than the full-height lugs. Those portions of a hex head that are not necessary for application and transmission of torque, nor necessary to resist axial loading, nor necessary to axially stabilize the fastener head within conventional driving tooling may be removed. Compatibility with existing hex head tools is maintained while improving handling of the fastener by an assembler and reducing material used in the fastener head.

CLAMP BOLT AND ASSOCIATED ASSEMBLY

An antitheft nut may include a virtual reference line extending in a circumferential direction on a basis of a center with respect to one surface of a nut body, a plurality of key assembling portions continuously protruding or depressed along the virtual reference line, and an assembling line having the plurality of key assembling portions repeatedly formed while being spaced apart from each other in an inside direction and an outside direction of the virtual reference line.

FASTENING SYSTEM AND METHOD

A fastening system is configured to be securely fastened from one side of at least one component. The fastening system includes a fastener including a shaft having a distal end extending from a head. A first channel is formed through the fastener between the head and the distal end. A nut is configured to be connected to the fastener. The nut includes a second channel that is coaxially aligned with the first channel.

Theft-resistant tire mounting assembly
09765807 · 2017-09-19 ·

A theft-resistant tire mounting assembly for deterring theft of wheels includes a wheel rim. Recesses are positioned proximate to a center of the wheel rim. An opening is centrally positioned in each recess. Nuts are configured to threadedly couple to the stud bolts of a wheel hub. One nut comprises a locknut, which has a second end that comprises an exposed face. A perimeter of the exposed face is complementary to the opening, and a keyhole is positioned in the exposed face. The assembly includes an adapter that has a key end, which is complementary to the exposed face. The locknut is incompatible with the socket of the tire iron, and a wrench is not couplable to a locknut that is threaded to the stud bolt. The key end is positioned to couple to the exposed face such that torque from the tire iron is transferable to the locknut.
