SELF-DRILLING, ANTI-BURR, THREADED FASTENER

A self-drilling, anti-burr, threaded fastener is provided having at least two different thread portions. The first thread portion extends along the tip and the second thread portion extends along the tapered portion adjacent to the tip. A third thread portion can be provided between the first and second thread portions that includes a plurality of axial gaps that extend to the thread root to remove burrs. Alternatively, knurling is provided in an area where the first and second thread portions meet, and the knurling acts to remove burrs.

The present disclosure provides a threaded fastener having a hybrid self-drilling tip or drill tip. The fastener includes a head, a shank connected to and extending from the head, a helical thread formation extending radially outwardly from part of the shank, and a self-drilling tip including a first tapered tip portion and a second tapered tip portion. The first tapered tip portion is connected at a first end to the shank and at a second end to the second tapered tip portion, and the second tapered tip portion terminates in a pointed end. The outer diameters of both tapered portions taper radially inwardly moving in the direction of the pointed end, which renders the fastener suitable for attachment to wood as well as for fastening two metal objects to one another.

Fasteners for high strength steel

A fastener has a generally cylindrical shank and a driver at a first end of the shank. The shank has a thread having a first side and a second side opposed to the first side. The first and second sides form a compound angle between the shank and an apex where the first and second sides meet. The compound angle is formed by a body portion extending along the first and second sides from the shank to an intersection, and a crest portion extending along the first and second sides from the intersection to the apex. The first and second sides in the body portion form a body angle with respect to each other, and the first and second sides in the crest portion form a crest angle with respect to each other. The crest angle is greater than the body angle.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR A FASTENER HAVING A PROGRESSIVE THREAD PROFILE

A novel threaded fastener is provided having an elongated shank portion with a first end and a second end opposed to the first end, and a helical thread in the form of a continuous helical ridge that is arranged on an external surface of the shank portion. The helical thread includes an asymmetrical threaded portion that has a progressively increasing axial displacement of a pressure flank of the helical thread between the first end and the second end of the shank portion, and a progressively decreasing axial displacement of a non-pressure flank of the helical thread between the first end and the second end of the shank portion. When assembled, the novel threaded fastener has a clamping force distribution that is evenly distributed on the helical threads along its axis in the direction of force transmission reducing the risk of self-loosening and increasing fatigue resistance.

Method for attaching mounted parts to concrete or masonry

A method is defined for attaching mounted parts on a mounting substrate formed of concrete or masonry, having a group of anchors wherein the following is true for the ratio VSd/NSd of the rated value for the transverse load VSd and of the rated value of the tensile load NSd of at least one anchor in the anchor group: VSd/NSd≥0.3, preferably VSd/NSd≥0.6 and particularly preferably VSd/NSd≥1.0, and wherein the characteristic resistances of these anchors to transverse loading VRk or to tensile loading NRk satisfy the following relationship: VRk/NRk≤1.1. The at least one anchor of the anchor group is inclined at an angle αAnker to the perpendicular to the surface of the mounting substrate in such a manner that the following is true: αAnker=k*¾*arc tan (VSd/NSd) for NSd>0, and αAnker=k*67.5° for NSd=0, where: 0.8≤k≤1.34, providing that αAnker≤75°.
