09651094 · 2017-05-16 · ·

Methods and apparatus for preloading a bearing are provided. These methods and apparatus include preload monitoring devices whereby the mechanic can accurately monitor and regulate the preload on a bearing or bearing assembly. Aspects of the invention may also be used to adjust the endplay on a bearing or a bearing assembly. In one aspect, the preload on the bearing is transmitted through a housing having a fluid pressure that can be detected and monitored. An apparatus for precisely rotating a nut and a tool for precisely rotating a nut are also provided. A bearing retaining nut arrangement that permits the loading or evaluating of a bearing inner race is also provided. The bearing retaining nut arrangement includes a first load-setting nut, a lock washer, and a second jam nut that secures the arrangement to a shaft.

EXPANSION SHEAR PIN FOR USE WITH THREAD-FORMING SCREW

A coupling system for attaching a first part to a second part using a locator and expansion shear pin is disclosed. The first part has a first flange and may be a formed part, such as an intake manifold. The second part has a second flange and may be a component, such as a throttle body, for attachment to the first part. The component includes a fastener-passing bore having an inner diameter. The locator and expansion shear pin extends perpendicularly from the first flange. The pin includes an expansion wall extending beyond the surface of the flange. A fastener-receiving bore is formed concentrically in the pin relative to the wall. The wall is expandable from a first diameter to a second diameter. The first diameter is less than the inner diameter of the fastener-passing bore. The second diameter is at least equal to the inner diameter of the fastener-passing bore.

LOW PROFILE FASTENING METHOD WITH TORQUE-LIMITING DISENGAGING HEAD

A fastener is disclosed. The fastener can be used to couple together two or more parts in an electronic device. The fastener may include a head coupled with a platform having a shaft extending from the platform. The head is coupled with the platform in a manner that allows the head to decouple from the platform. For example, the head is secured with the platform by an adhesive that provides an adhesive bonding force. In this regard, a rotational force applied to the head that is greater than the adhesive bonding force causes the head to decouple from the platform. The shaft may include several blades and several protrusions. The blades may be used to engage one of the parts. The protrusions may also engage the same part as the blades, and interlock with the part to provide a retaining force that prevents the fastener from decoupling from the parts.
