MUD-LUBRICATED BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH LOWER SEAL
A mud-lubricated bearing section including a seal assembly for directing a fluid flowing through a mud-lubricated bearing into a central bore of a mandrel. At least one mud-lubricated bearing is positioned in an annular space between the mandrel and a housing. The seal assembly directs the fluid from the annular space through a mandrel fluid port into the mandrel central bore. The seal assembly seals the annular space, and includes a piston, a plug, and a chamber between the piston and the plug. The piston is configured for axial movement relative to the mandrel and the housing, while the plug is axially fixed relative to the mandrel and/or the housing. The chamber is configured to contain a lubricating fluid. The piston includes inner and outer seals. The plug includes a lower seal and a passage allowing the fluid from the chamber to reach the lower seal for lubrication.
POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND, POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND COMPACTS, METHODS OF MAKING SAME, AND APPLICATIONS
Embodiments of the invention relate to polycrystalline diamond compacts (PDC) exhibiting enhanced diamond-to-diamond bonding. In an embodiment, a PDC includes a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) table bonded to a substrate. At least a portion of the PCD table includes a plurality of diamond grains defining a plurality of interstitial regions. The plurality of interstitial regions includes a metal-solvent catalyst. The plurality of diamond grains exhibit an average grain size of about 30 m or less. The plurality of diamond grains and the metal-solvent catalyst collectively exhibit an average electrical conductivity of less than about 1200 S/m. Other embodiments are directed to PCD, employing such PCD, methods of forming PCD and PDCs, and various applications for such PCD and PDCs in rotary drill bits, bearing apparatuses, and wire-drawing dies.
Compound angle bearing assembly
A bearing housing for a bottomhole assembly of a downhole tool includes an upper bearing housing, lower bearing housing, and a driveshaft. The upper bearing housing and lower bearing housing include a bore defining a bore longitudinal axis. The outer surface of the upper bearing housing defining a bearing housing longitudinal axis, the bearing housing longitudinal axis formed at an angle to the bore longitudinal axis. The upper bearing housing may be formed by forming a bore through an upper bearing housing blank and subsequently forming the outer surface of the upper bearing housing concentric with the bearing housing longitudinal axis.
Thrust load support for downhole-type system
A downhole-type system includes a rotatable rotor, a magnetic thrust bearing coupled to the rotor, and a mechanical thrust bearing coupled to the rotor. The magnetic thrust bearing is configured to support a first portion of an axial load of the rotor during rotor rotation, and the mechanical thrust bearing is configured to support a second portion of the axial load of the rotor during rotor rotation.
Low-friction, abrasion resistant replaceable bearing surface
A system includes a device with at least one recess with a wall. The at least one recess includes a first hole with a first diameter. At least one bearing surface is configured to be inserted into and removed from the at least one recess. The at least one bearing surface includes a second hole with a second diameter that is less than the first diameter. At least one cross-pin is configured to be positioned within the first hole and the second hole. At least one washer is positioned within the recess provides a biasing force to urge the bearing surface upward.
APPARATUSES AND METHODS FOR INDUCTION HEATING
A heating apparatus for induction heating is disclosed. The heating apparatus may comprise a bearing ring, at least one bearing element disposed in the bearing ring, and a braze material adjacent to the at least one bearing element and the bearing ring. The heating apparatus may additionally comprise an inductor positioned radially adjacent to at least a portion of the bearing ring. A current source may be electrically coupled to the inductor. A bearing orienting member may also abut a surface of the at least one bearing element. The bearing orienting member may orient a surface of the at least one bearing element. A heating method is also disclosed.
DECK BUSHING SYSTEM FOR DRILLING MACHINES
A deck bushing system for a drilling machine having a mast deck including a deck hole is disclosed. The deck bushing system may include a deck bushing sized to be received in the deck hole. The deck bushing may include a tubular member having a generally square shaped flange. Additionally, the deck bushing system may include a deck bushing housing fixedly secured to the mast deck. The deck bushing housing may form a generally V-shape opening toward the deck hole.
BEARING ASSEMBLIES, RELATED BEARING APPARATUSES, AND RELATED METHODS
Bearing assemblies that include a plurality of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) bearing elements, bearing apparatuses including such bearing assemblies, and methods of operating and fabricating such bearing assemblies and apparatuses are disclosed. In an embodiment, the plurality of PCD bearing elements of one or more of the bearing assemblies disclosed herein include at least one first PCD bearing element. At least a portion of the first PCD bearing element exhibits a coercivity of about 125 Oersteds or more and a specific magnetic saturation of about 14 Gauss.Math.cm3/gram or less. The first PCD bearing element includes a bearing surface with at least one groove formed therein. In an embodiment, the plurality of PCD bearing elements also include at least one second PCD bearing element. The second PCD bearing element exhibits a coercivity that is less than and a specific magnetic saturation that is greater than the first PCD bearing element.
