Controlled translation method of affixing a termination to a tensile member
09840044 · 2017-12-12 ·

A method for creating a termination by attaching some kind of fitting to the end of a tensile member such as a cable. The end fitting is provided with an internal cavity. The cavity has a proximal portion that is adjacent to the area where the tensile member exits the fitting and a distal portion on its opposite end. A length of the tensile member's filaments is placed within this expanding cavity and infused with liquid potting compound. The method exploits the characteristic of a liquid potting compound as it transitions to a solid. The potting compound in one portion of the cavity is typically transitioned to a solid at a more rapid rate than other portions. Once the potting compound in one portion of the cavity has transitioned sufficiently to hold the filaments at the desired level, tension is placed on the tensile member and a small linear displacement may be imposed on the tensile member. This linear displacement tends to pull the filaments residing in the potting compound into better alignment and improve load sharing.

Bearing compression strap

A tensioning arrangement for a bearing ring, which introduces a compressive force towards a rotational centre of the bearing ring, to prevent the bearing ring distorting as a shaft supported by the bearing turns. The tensioner arrangement includes a strap and a tensioner. The strap has a connector at each end, and tensioner has an element for connecting to the connectors. The tensioner also has an element for applying tension to the strap. In use, the strap is arranged around the bearing ring and a circumferential length of the strap in contact with the bearing ring is reduced, thereby applying compressive force to the bearing ring.

Multi-pass crimp collar for a looped cable

A cable assembly including a collar and a cable. The collar includes a first opening, a second opening and a third opening, each of which extends through the collar along a longitudinal dimension of the collar. The cable includes a looped end and a first cable segment extending through the first opening, a second cable segment extending through the second opening, a third cable segment extending into the third opening, and a fourth cable segment forming a loop between the first and second cable segments. The collar is crimped or swaged to the cable and is securely engaged with the first, second and third segments of the cable.

Side-loading straight-line deadend clamp assembly

A clamp assembly includes a body member having a first and second ends. A cable groove is formed in the body member between the first and second ends thereof to receive a conductor. A keeper is connected to the body member and has a lower surface to engage the conductor received in the cable groove. A threaded fastener connects the keeper to the body member. A biasing member is disposed between the keeper and the body member on the threaded fastener to bias the keeper in a direction away from the body member.

Described are seat belt connection assemblies having a seat belt twist link integrally formed as a single piece construction having a mounting portion and a linking portion connected by a twist portion. A plane of the mounting portion is positioned at approximately a right angle to a plane of the linking portion. The linking portion has a planar section and a curled section, and a slot that extends through at least some of the planar section and the curled section. The curled section of the linking portion has a pronged end that extends along sides of the slot.

Versatile termination method for long cables

A method for creating a composite cable having at least one advanced termination on at least one end. An advanced termination is added to an end of a short synthetic tensile strength member. The strength of the tensile strength member and termination is then tested. Once tested satisfactorily, the short cable is spiced onto a long cable of the same type using prior art splicing techniques. The union of the short cable and the long cable creates a “composite” cable having a advanced termination on at least one end. In most applications it is preferable to set the length of the short cable so that the interwoven splice will exist at a desired location.

Lanyard for a tool

A lanyard assembly including a strap having a first end and a second end, an attachment mechanism coupled to the first end and a quick connect attachment mechanism connected to the second end. The quick connect attachment mechanism includes a swivel member and a cinch for securing a tool coupled to the swivel member. The swivel member is configured to allow rotation between the cinch and the strap and the quick connect attachment mechanism can be quickly engaged and disengaged from the strap to allow the quick connection of various tools.
