Labyrinth seal

A labyrinth seal including a stator and a non-contacting rotor, and annular elastomeric seals. The confronting surfaces of the stator and rotor define at least one interface passage, including a radially-outermost annular interface passage between an annular, outermost, radially-extending projection of the stator and an annular rearwardly-extending distal projection of the rotor that overlaps the radially-extending projection of the stator, the radially-outermost annular interface passage tapering outwardly and rearwardly at an acute angle relative to an axial reference line. The annular elastomeric seals are stationary with the stator during dynamic operation of the rotor, and are not contacted by a surface of the rotor during dynamic operation. The interface can also have two radially-disposed exclusion chambers, the outer exclusion chamber being defined in part by a radially-inboard projection of the rotor. The stator can have a projection providing a contact avoidance interface position inboard of at least two contaminant-excluding interfaces.

Sealing system for rotary shaft

A sealing unit for a drive shaft driving a working fluid; the sealing unit comprising a sleeve attached to the drive shaft and a gland attached to the housing, a static seal ring attached to the gland and in close proximity to the sleeve, and a stuffing box about the static seal ring, fibrous packing seal blocking the distal and proximal ends of the stuffing box and a first sealant comprising a viscous, non-Newtonian fluid that is injected into the stuffing box under a first pressure exceeding the pressure of the working fluid; the sealing unit further comprising an inner fluid seal of a Newtonian fluid between the first sealant and the drive shaft upstream of the first sealant, such that the Newtonian fluid seal is kept at a pressure slightly higher than the pressure of the working fluid and prevents the working fluid from reaching the first sealant.

SEAL ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF TESTING

A dual seal termination assembly having a first termination body; and a sleeve at least partially surrounding the first termination body; primary and secondary seals adapted to be fitted between the first termination body and the sleeve; a test port in the first termination body to supply test fluid to a point between the primary and secondary seals of the first termination body; the test port being adapted to receive test fluid at a predetermined pressure, such that a pressure difference is created between the point between the primary and secondary seals and a point on the other side of the primary seal and a point on the other side of the secondary seal.

A valve arrangement includes various improvements useable in the context of a fluid additive system, such as a water softener. For example, the valve assembly may include a seal assembly engaged by a reciprocating piston, in which the seal assembly includes a minimal number of parts, is easily assembled, and can be easily inserted in the bore of the valve body without jeopardizing the integrity of the seals. The valve assembly may further include a quick-disconnect system which allows a “control head” including a valve actuation system and electronic controls to be disconnected from the rest of the valve arrangement with only a partial rotation of the control head. The valve assembly may also include a venturi used for drawing regeneration fluid into the system, and an associated venturi cleaner system which allows a user to unclog the fluid-flow orifice of the venturi without any disassembly of parts of the valve arrangement.

SEAL ASSEMBLY

A seal assembly for use in a turbomachine, the seal assembly comprising an oil seal plate; a rotatable component which defines a central axis and is received in a central aperture of the oil seal plate; and an annular seal which comprises a base and a sealing portion, the base being held by the rotatable component; wherein the sealing portion is configured to form a seal with the oil seal plate when the rotatable component and annular seal are rotating below a predetermined rotational speed; and wherein the sealing portion is configured to move radially outwards with respect to the central axis such that the sealing portion loses contact with the oil seal plate when the rotatable component and annular seal are rotating above the predetermined rotational speed.

Seal arrangement and undersea high-pressure shaft seal cartridge for underwater vehicles

A sealing arrangement having at least two seals for providing a sealing force against a rotating shaft in underwater applications. A replaceable fin assembly comprising a cartridge and a control fin for manned and unmanned underwater vehicles having the sealing arrangement.

External material intrusion-proof sealing system for rollers used in conveyor belts for bulk materials

A sealing system which is designed to leverage the centrifugal acceleration of solids and liquids due to the natural rotation of the roller, expelling them outside, preventing most of the contamination from trying to penetrate the roller seals. Excess of contaminants that is not centrifugally expelled is blocked by the following internal sealing system.
