A water shut-off device is disclosed. The water shut-off device has an inlet port and an outlet port. The water shut-off device includes: a housing fluidly connected to the inlet port and the outlet port, the housing having an opening at its upper end and including: a valve for switching the device between an open configuration and a closed configuration, the valve permitting flow of water through the device in the open configuration and prohibiting flow of water through the device in the closed configuration; a gear wheel secured to the housing and operatively coupled to the valve, the valve being actuated by rotations of the gear wheel; and an anchor in mechanical communication with the gear wheel, the anchor including: a container for receiving water flowing through the opening; and at least one pallet connected to the container, the at least one pallet being configured to catch against one or more teeth of the gear wheel, the anchor being rotatably mounted at a fixed pivot in the housing such that the anchor swings about the pivot as water collects in the container, the swinging of the anchor about the pivot causing the at least one pallet to alternately catch and release a tooth of the gear wheel, thereby causing the gear wheel to rotate in a first direction.

The moveable float can form a fluid-tight seal at a first end when the moveable float is coupled to the outlet base, and a flow opening when the moveable float is at least partially decoupled from the outlet base. Some embodiments include a housing positioned with the moveable float, where the housing encloses a suction device coupled to a moveable piston. Some embodiments include an actuable diaphragm positioned in the outlet base, and a compressed air tube or passageway coupled to one side the actuable diaphragm. In some embodiments, the actuable diaphragm is configured and arranged to be actuated by compressed air to move the moveable piston.

This disclosure provides apparatus and methods for watering livestock using a livestock waterer, a water source, and a waterer valve system for replenishing water in a water reservoir of the livestock waterer. A valve housing can be affixed to the water reservoir and coupled to a plunger. A cam can be pivotably coupled to the valve housing and one end of a float arm. A float component can be coupled to the opposite end of the float arm. Water from the water supply can enter the valve housing and exit an orifice in the valve housing along first and second side spouts. The float component can have a generally flat bottom and move vertically along with the water level within the water reservoir. As the float component moves vertically, the float arm pivots the cam. The cam can move the plunger in the valve housing to stop water flow.

An inlet is configured to allow the liquid to enter the container. A valve is actuated to open at a first liquid level within the container and to close at a different liquid level within the container. An amount of time that the valve is opened is determined based on the width of the container.

Float

A buoyant float including a body having an interior defined in part by a side wall and a bottom extending inward from the side wall. The side wall has an upper edge defining an open top of the body. The float includes a cover sized and shaped for covering the top of the body. The cover attaches to the body to maintain the cover in position relative to the body to cover the open top. The cover has a tubular skirt extending downward and around the upper edge of the body side wall when the cover is in position covering the top of the body. An air pocket is created at an interface between the cover and the body when the float is positioned in liquid to isolate the interface from the liquid and prevent liquid from entering the hollow interior of the body through the interface.
