Systems and methods for heat rise compensation

A HVAC controller includes a housing and one or more heat-generating components contained within the housing. The heat-generating components cause a temperature inside the housing to exceed a temperature outside the housing. The controller includes a temperature sensor configured to measure the temperature inside the housing and a controller event detector configured to detect, for at least one of the heat-generating components, a controller event that generates heat inside the housing. The controller further includes a temperature compensation module configured to identify a steady-state temperature gain associated with the detected controller event, to calculate a temperature offset using a summation of the steady-state temperature gain, to determine the temperature of the building zone outside the housing by subtracting the temperature offset from the temperature measured inside the housing, and to store the temperature offset.

The method comprises providing a radiant heater spaced above each floor zone so as in use to direct heat downwards towards the floor; providing a ventilating air inlet spaced above at least part of each floor zone, the air inlet being at the same level as, or closer to, the floor than the radiant heater, the air inlet being arranged in use to draw-in a controllable quantity of air from outside of the enclosed area; providing a ventilating air outlet spaced above at least part of each floor zone, the air outlet being spaced further from the floor than the radiant heater and air inlet, the air outlet being arranged in use to extract a controllable quantity of air from inside of the enclosed area, wherein the method further comprises, for each floor zone, independently controlling the quantity of air being drawn in and extracted from said floor zone based on the sensed temperature inside and outside the enclosed space.

The controller can control the flow of water such that water at a first temperature flows to some of the plurality of ports and the water at a second temperature lower than the first temperature flows to other some of the plurality of ports.

A ventilation fan includes a body unit, which has a fan disposed in a body case and a fan controller operable to control an air volume of the fan. The ventilation fan also includes a sensor module having an indoor environment detecting sensor and a module controller operable to control a detecting operation of the indoor environment detecting sensor. The body unit has a module mount on which the sensor module is mounted and another sensor module can be mounted in place of the sensor module. The module mount is connected to the fan controller. The module controller outputs detection information obtained based on a detection result of the indoor environment detecting sensor to the fan controller, which in turn controls the air volume of the fan based on the detection information inputted thereto.

A multifunction adaptive whole house fan system can include a whole house fan to pull large volume of air through a building structure. The whole house fan can pull air from a motorized window or damper into the building structure and expel air through an attic. The system can monitor the environment to operate the whole house fan when desired conditions are present in coordination with other systems of the building structure to reduce overall energy consumption.
