An electric bed package includes a bedstead and a packing member. The bedstead includes an upper body supporting unit, a lower body supporting unit and a buttock supporting unit, which all have a flat shape. The upper and lower body supporting units are parallel stacked in a way that the buttock supporting unit is arranged by a lateral side of a stack of the upper and lower body supporting units and the buttock supporting unit is approximately perpendicular to the upper body supporting unit. The packing member packs and retains the bedstead therein. The electric bed package has a reduced volume, facilitating transportation thereof.

A foundation for a mattress is formed from one or more single-layer, unitary foam blocks with supports that extend across each foam block's bottom side. The supports provide crosswise support across a bed frame and can be directly attached to the foam block or may be provided in a kit or separately sourced. The foam block is rigid enough to support a mattress and is compressible so it has a compressed configuration and an expanded configuration, and its bottom side may have channels for the supports. In the compressed configuration, the foundation may be folded and vacuum-sealed in a plastic membrane which provides benefits for storing, shipping, and delivering the foundation. When the foundation is delivered to its place of use, the compressed foundation is removed from its packaging, allowing the foam block to return to its expanded configuration.

In one embodiment, the digital bed system is comprised of an array of support cells. Each support cell is capable of communicating with a controller and increasing and decreasing in firmness in response to commands issued by a controller. The support cells are operatively connected to a communication channel that is also connected to a controller. The controller is capable of receiving data from the support cells and is also capable of issuing commands to each of the support cells. The controller is programmed issue commands to increase or decrease the firmness of individual support cells within the support cells.

A plurality of elongate lower slats extend between the first side rail and the second side rail of the frame at a second level located below the first level of the upper slats. Each lower slat is located below a gap formed between a pair of adjacent upper slats. A mounting member resiliently supports the ends of two adjacent upper slats and rigidly supports the end of a lower slat that is located below the gap formed between the two adjacent upper slats, whereby the firmness of a mattress overlying the insert can be selectively adjusted.

The pressure generator is configured to create negative pressure to draw air, moisture or particles in the cavity and/or air transfer ports through the cavity and into the pressure generator and to create positive pressure to move air out of the cavity through the air transfer ports. It is a feature of a porous body (10, 20) comprising a three-dimensional network of node points (200) joined to one another by struts (100), and a void volume (300) present between the struts (100), that the struts (100) have an average length of 200 to 50 mm, the struts (100) have an average thickness of 100 m to 5 mm, and that the porous body has a compression hardness (40% compression, DIN EN ISO 3386-1: 2010-09) in at least one spatial direction of 10 to 100 kPa. The porous body according to the invention combines the advantages of a conventional mattress or cushion with ventilatability which results from its porous structure and is not achievable in conventional foams. The invention further relates to a method of producing such a porous body (10, 20) and to an apparatus comprising said body (10, 20) for supporting and/or bearing a person.
