Method of deploying a heat exchanger pipe
11274856 · 2022-03-15 ·

A new system for and a method of deploying a heat exchanger pipe. A bore hole is drilled from an access ditch location to a terminal ditch location using a piloted drill head powered via an umbilical attached to the piloted drill head. A casing is attached to the piloted drill head and disposed about the umbilical into the bore hole from the access ditch location to the terminal ditch location. At the terminal ditch location, the piloted drill head is removed from the casing and the umbilical and a heat exchanger pipe is attached to the umbilical. The umbilical is withdrawn from within the casing deployed in the bore hole to pull the heat exchanger pipe into the casing. The casing is then withdrawn from the bore hole leaving the heat exchanger pipe in the bore hole.

POWER GENERATION MODEL BASED ON A TRANSCRITICAL CYCLE WITH AN INCREASING-PRESSURE ENDOTHERMIC PROCESS USING CO2-BASED MIXTURE WORKING FLUIDS FOR AN ENHANCED GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM

It is provided a power generation model based on a transcritical cycle with an increasing-pressure endothermic process using CO.sub.2-based mixture working fluids for an enhanced geothermal system, including a geothermal water circulation, a mixture working fluid circulation and a cooling water circulation. A coaxial pipe-in-pipe downhole heat exchanger is provided in the mixture working fluid circulation. Innovations are reflected in that an increasing-pressure endothermic process is achieved due to making use of gravity and hence increase a heat quantity absorbed in a cycle, thereby improving power generation quantity of the cycle; and a binary mixture working fluid composed of CO.sub.2 and an organic working fluid is adopted to realize a transcritical power cycle with an increasing-pressure endothermic process and a decreasing-temperature exothermic process, thereby effectively reducing irreversibility of a heat transfer between a working fluid and a heat source and improving power cycle efficiency.

Controller for controlling generation of geothermal power in an organic rankine cycle operation during hydrocarbon production

Systems and methods for generating and a controller for controlling generation of geothermal power in an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) operation in the vicinity of a wellhead during hydrocarbon production to thereby supply electrical power to one or more of in-field operational equipment, a grid power structure, and an energy storage device. In an embodiment, during hydrocarbon production, a temperature of a flow of wellhead fluid from the wellhead or working fluid may be determined. If the temperature is above a vaporous phase change threshold of the working fluid, heat exchanger valves may be opened to divert flow of wellhead fluid to heat exchangers to facilitate heat transfer from the flow of wellhead fluid to working fluid through the heat exchangers, thereby to cause the working fluid to change from a liquid to vapor, the vapor to cause a generator to generate electrical power via rotation of an expander.

A geothermal energy system utilizes supercritical CO2 turbine and a radial outflow reaction turbine, a Catherine Wheel having wheel arms, that spins around an axle to produce power. A fin portion extends from the radial portion at an offset angle, to an exhaust end. A first working fluid, such as supercritical carbon dioxide flows through an arm conduit within the wheel arm and a second working fluid, such as a hydrocarbon mixes with the first working fluid and both flow through a turbine. The turbine may be configured within the wheel arm conduit or mounted prior to the Catherine Wheel or any other radial outflow reaction turbine, or variable phase turbines available, and it turns as the combined working fluids expand and vaporize. The second working fluid may be condensed and recirculated while the first working fluid is expelled back into a geothermal reservoir.
