The heat exchanger includes a plurality of plate-like fins arranged in parallel at intervals, the plurality of flat tubes inserted into the plurality of plate-like fins, and at least one water-guiding member arranged between adjacent ones of the plurality of flat tubes projecting from at least one of both outermost ones of the plurality of plate-like fins and having both end portions held in contact with projecting flat surfaces of the adjacent ones of the plurality of flat tubes.

Refrigerant outlet device of a condenser

A condenser equipped with a refrigerant outlet configured to receive and store liquid refrigerant during an off-cycle is described. The refrigerant outlet may include an outflow pipe surrounded by a weir. The weir may include a port, through which liquid refrigerant in the weir can be directed to, for example, moving parts of the chiller for lubrication. The outflow pipe may extend vertically relative to the bottom of the condenser. In some embodiments, a first opening of the outflow pipe may be positioned higher than the bottom of the condenser in the vertical direction, while the weir may be positioned lower than the bottom of the condenser. Liquid refrigerant in the condenser can flow to and stay in the weir in an off-cycle. During a subsequent start-up, the liquid refrigerant in the weir can be directly quickly to moving parts of the chiller.

A multiple tube bank heat exchanger includes a first tube bank including at least a first and a second flattened tube segments extending longitudinally in spaced parallel relationship and a second tube bank including at least a first and a second flattened tube segments extending longitudinally in spaced parallel relationship. The second tube bank is disposed behind the first tube bank with a leading edge of the second tube bank spaced from a trailing edge of the first tube bank. A continuous folded fin extends between the first and second flattened tube segments of both of said first tube bank and said second tube bank.

Heat exchanger system and method of operation

A method of operating a heat exchanger is disclosed in which an electric field is applied to a hydrophobic surface having condensed water droplets thereon to reduce a contact angle between the individual droplet surfaces and the hydrophobic surface, and to increase droplet surface energy to a second surface energy level. The electric field is removed to increase the contact angle between the individual droplet surfaces and the hydrophobic surface, and to reduce droplet surface energy to a third surface energy level. The third surface energy level is greater than the first surface energy level and greater than a surface energy level for a free droplet. A portion of the droplet surface energy is converted to kinetic energy to detach droplets from the hydrophobic surface. The detached droplets are removed from the heat rejection side fluid flow path.

Heat exchanger system and method of operation

A method of operating a heat exchanger is disclosed in which an electric field is applied to a hydrophobic surface having condensed water droplets thereon to reduce a contact angle between the individual droplet surfaces and the hydrophobic surface, and to increase droplet surface energy to a second surface energy level. The electric field is removed to increase the contact angle between the individual droplet surfaces and the hydrophobic surface, and to reduce droplet surface energy to a third surface energy level. The third surface energy level is greater than the first surface energy level and greater than a surface energy level for a free droplet. A portion of the droplet surface energy is converted to kinetic energy to detach droplets from the hydrophobic surface. The detached droplets are removed from the heat rejection side fluid flow path.

A liquid level detector for use in a pump control system comprises a chamber 20 for liquid, a liquid inlet 6 to the chamber 20, a liquid outlet 7 from the chamber and connectable to a pump, and a capacitive sensor comprising mutually spaced capacitive sensor elements (21, 22; 22, 23) forming a capacitance which is sensitive to permittivity within a region of the chamber proximate the capacitive sensor. The chamber is defined at least partially by a barrier member 25 and the capacitive sensor elements are provided on the barrier member outside the chamber.
