HEAT EXCHANGER
A heat exchanger for a gas turbine engine comprising a compressor, a combustor and a turbine. The heat exchanger comprising alternating hot and cold channels. Compressed air from the compressor flows through the cold channels and exhaust gas from the turbine flows through the hot channels. Each cold channel comprises first and second opposing surfaces conveying compressed air along a first path. Each cold channel comprises rows of vortex generators and pin fins extending from the first or second surfaces along the first path. The rows extend substantially perpendicular to the first path. Each hot channel is defined by a first and second opposing surfaces conveying exhaust gas along a second path substantially perpendicular to the first path. Each hot channel comprises rows of vortex generators and pin fins extending from the first or second surfaces along the second path. The rows extend substantially perpendicularly to the second path.
EFFICIENT SUCTION-LINE HEAT EXCHANGER
A heat exchanger includes a shell, a coiled tube, and a swirler. The shell has an inlet and an outlet and forms a cavity. A first of a liquid refrigerant and a vapor refrigerant enters the inlet of the shell. The coiled tube is positioned within the cavity and is connected to an inlet tube from outside the shell and an outlet tube to outside the shell. A second of the liquid refrigerant and the vapor refrigerant enters the inlet tube of the coiled tube. The swirler is arranged adjacent the inlet of the shell and is dimensioned to distribute the first of the liquid refrigerant and the vapor refrigerant across the coiled tube.
Flow assisted anti-fouling geometries for compact heat exchangers
A header for a heat exchanger and method for cleaning a heat exchanger in a loop without disconnecting loop components is provided. The header is in flow communication with the heat exchanger for distributing fluid through a plurality of adjacent channels. The header is connected between a main heat exchanger inlet nozzle and a channel flow distributor. A filter element is disposed within the header between the nozzle and channel flow distributor. Under normal operation, the filter element removes particulates and fouling material from the main flow stream before it enters the heat exchanger channels. During the cleaning process, fluid is injected on or through the filter element to remove particulates and fouling material through at least one outlet port. The header arrangement allows the filter element to be ‘cleaned in place’ without draining the system and disconnecting the heat exchanger or other components from the flow loop.
Method of manufacturing a heat exchanger
A method includes providing a first metal sheet and a second metal sheet, printing a channel pattern on the first metal sheet, bonding the first metal sheet and the second metal sheet to each other, forming a plurality of channels by introducing a fluid between the first metal sheet and the second metal sheet, introducing working fluid in the plurality of channels, sealing the first metal sheet and the second metal sheet, and forming a plurality of through holes in locations where the first metal sheet and the second metal sheet are bonded to each other. The plurality of through holes are arranged in a plurality of rows, each row including at least two through holes, and each location where the first metal sheet and the second metal sheet are bonded to each other includes a single through hole of the plurality of through holes.

Staggered heat exchanger array with side curtains
A heat exchanger array includes a first row of heat exchangers, a second row of heat exchangers, and side curtains. The first row heat exchangers are spaced apart to define first gaps. The second row heat exchangers are spaced apart to define second gaps and are positioned downstream of and staggered from the first row heat exchangers such that the second row heat exchangers are aligned with the first gaps and the first row heat exchangers are aligned with the second gaps. Each side curtain is in close proximity to a first row heat exchanger and a second row heat exchanger. The side curtains define a neck region upstream of and aligned with each first row heat exchanger and each second row heat exchanger. Each neck region has a neck area that is less than a frontal area of the heat exchanger with which it is aligned.
Passive flow divider and liquid cooling system comprising the same
A passive flow divider for providing outflows is described. The passive flow divider includes at least one inlet for an inflow and a plurality of outlets for said outflows, a housing enclosing a main partition that separates an intake space and a discharge space, a common end located at an interface between the intake space and the discharge space, and a baffle arranged in the intake space between said inlet and the common end.
