Longitudinal, tolerance-mitigating cam-lock fastening system

A cam-lock fastening system is designed to accommodate a tolerance stackup to fasten a pair of rigid structures. A spring allows some longitudinal motion of the pin that would not be accommodated by the rigid structures or metal cam-lock and pin. The spring-loaded pin is also suitably designed to produce a preloaded structural joint that is between specified minimum and maximum loads for any tolerance stackup that is within specification. The fastening of the structures requires no manual adjustment of the pin, and facilitates blind connection of a high-fidelity electrical connector. Further, the described cam-lock fastening system is designed for high performance applications requiring preload forces in the thousands of pounds per square inch.

DEVICE FOR DETECTING THE ABSENCE OF A MECHANICAL BARRIER FOR A MISSILE AND MISSILE COMPRISING SUCH A DEVICE

A device for detecting the absence of a mechanical barrier for a missile comprises a rod constrained by a first elastic element and a free end capable of coming into contact with the mechanical barrier and a cam constrained by a second elastic element. The rod can assume one or more of the following positions: an initial entry position wherein the rod is held in a stable position between the cam and the mechanical barrier, an extended position wherein the cam moved the rod in the direction of the free end, and a final entry position wherein the rod is acted upon by the first elastic element after the rod has been released by the cam once the rod has completely entered the missile in the final entry position so as to no longer present a danger to its environment or a hindrance to the proper functioning of the missile.

Low-Profile Wing Hinge Mechanism

A airborne vehicle comprising a fuselage, a folding wing-like structure which is movable from a stowed position to a deployed position, and a hinge mechanism which couples the folding wing-like structure to the fuselage in a manner so that the folding wing-like structure displaces and rotates during movement from the stowed position to the deployed position. The hinge mechanism is housed within an outer mold line of the fuselage and folding wing-like structure to decrease the signature of the airborne vehicle.

A ramjet projectile comprising: an outer assembly that is tubular and comprises first, second and third portions; solid ramjet fuel attached to and disposed inside the first portion of the outer assembly; an inner assembly disposed inside the outer assembly and comprising a first portion threadably coupled to the second portion of the outer assembly and a second portion surrounded by the third portion of the outer assembly to form an annular air passageway having an air inlet. The first portion of the inner assembly comprising a plurality of openings spatially distributed about a circumference. The inner assembly is rotatable relative to the outer assembly between first and second locations displaced by a distance from each other during travel along the gun barrel. The openings are not in flow communication with the annular air passageway when the inner assembly is at the first location and are in flow communication with the annular air passageway when the inner assembly is at the second location. Preferably the solid ramjet fuel comprises boron and a binder.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROTECTING FOLDING WINGS ON A MISSILE WHILE IN THEIR STOWED STATE

A cover 10 and method for protecting a missile 15 with stowed wings 20 and connected to a vessel carrying it. The cover 10 includes a spoiler shaped front part 25 for covering a gap between the wings 20 of the missile 15 and the fuselage of the missile 15 for minimizing aerodynamic forces.

Rocket motors having controlled autoignition propellant systems

Solid propellant systems include a main propellant and a secondary propellant in contact with the first propellant that exhibits autoignition temperatures of at least about 100° F. lower than the autoignition temperature of the main propellant. The secondary propellant of the present invention is most advantageously employed with conventional AP-containing solid propellant formulations as the main propellant, especially formulations containing both AP, an energetic solid, and a binder. In especially preferred forms, the secondary propellant will include a nitramine which is at least one selected from nitroguanidine (NQ), cyclotrimethylene trinitramine (RDX) and cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine (HMX), and a binder which is at least one selected from HTPB, HTPE or glycidyl azide polymer (GAP). Most preferably, the secondary propellant will include a combination of nitramines which includes NQ and one of RDX or HMX.
