FRANGIBLE FIREARM PROJECTILES, METHODS FOR FORMING THE SAME, AND FIREARM CARTRIDGES CONTAINING THE SAME
Frangible firearm projectiles, firearm cartridges containing the same, and methods for forming the same. The firearm projectiles are formed from a compacted mixture of metal powders that includes zinc and iron powders and which may include an anti-sparking agent. The compacted mixture is heat treated for a time sufficient to form a plurality of discrete alloy domains within the compacted mixture. The frangible firearm projectile may be formed by a mechanism that includes vapor-phase diffusion bonding and oxidation of the metal powders and that does not include forming a liquid phase of any of the metal powders or utilizing a polymeric binder. A majority component of the frangible firearm projectile may be iron. One or more of zinc, bismuth, tin, copper, nickel, tungsten, boron, and/or alloys thereof may form a minority component of the frangible firearm projectile. The anti-sparking agent may include a borate, such as boric acid.
Munition modification kit and method of modifying munition
An existing munition may be modified, using a modification kit, to provide enhanced fragmentation effects. The munition may be enclosed in an airframe, which also contains preformed fragments, and one or more adapters may be used to provide connections through the airframe. The adapters may be used to substitute for types of connectors already on the existing munition. The adapters may include one or more of an adapter for coupling a tail kit to a tail of the munition, an adapter for coupling a nose kit to a nose of the munition, and an adapter for coupling lugs to the munition. The adapters may engage couplers on the munition, and/or may engage the airframe. The modification of the existing munition may transform the existing munition into a fragmentation weapon, for example usable for height-of-burst detonation to spread fragments over a large area.
METHOD OF MAKING A TWO-PIECE PRIMER INSERT
The present invention provides a method of making a two piece primer insert comprising: an upper primer insert portion comprising an upper primer bottom surface, an upper primer aperture through the upper primer bottom surface; a substantially cylindrical coupling element extending away from the upper primer bottom surface, and an interior surface; a lower primer insert portion comprising a lower primer bottom surface opposite a lower primer top surface having a primer recess, a lower primer aperture through the lower primer bottom surface, and a flange adapted to receive a polymer overmolding that extends circumferentially about an outer edge of the lower primer top surface; and an insert joint that links and aligns the upper primer bottom surface and the lower primer bottom surface to form a primer insert.
AMMUNITION PRODUCTION LOADING MACHINE
Described is an ammunition production loading machine. The machine will load two cartridges at once and is referred to as a ‘two-out” machine. The machine will be of a mechanical nature reducing the potential loss of production that occurs with pneumatic systems. Any pneumatic systems on the machine will operate only in failure instances, i.e. in the case of a powder failure the pneumatic system will obstruct the projectile feed mechanism. The machine consists of seven (7) major components, which operate in unison. The machine is intended to run a single caliber so changeover adjustments and time required to change calibers are eliminated. The machine is capable of precisely loading a complete cartridge at a rate of 240 parts per minute in a completely automated manner. The key features of this novel machine are the full automation from station to station and a cartridge retaining bullet crimp case bushing in a rotating main disk, which rotates cases from station to station. The bullet crimp case bushing has a tapered feature inside which crimps the case to the bullet. Machines in the prior art utilize slotted case inserts or features to hold the cartridge base in position for loading, which relies on a separate tool for crimping and are not fully automated. The herein described machine is fully automated and does not require a person to manually move parts from one station to the next, nor loading of individual inserts to effectuate the bullet to case connection.
CARTRIDGE WITH IMPROVED PENETRATION AND EXPANSION BULLET
A cartridge with a bullet has desirable penetration capabilities and controlled separation of components upon terminal impact. In embodiments of the invention, the bullet comprises a forward component, a lead core, and a copper jacket. The bullet having a forward nose portion with a plurality of cutaways spaced circumferentially about the nose portion. The copper jacket having a leading edge portion positioned at the cutaways.
CARTRIDGE WITH IMPROVED PENETRATION AND EXPANSION BULLET
A cartridge with a bullet has desirable penetration capabilities and controlled separation of components upon terminal impact. In embodiments of the invention, the bullet comprises a forward component, a lead core, and a copper jacket. The bullet having a forward nose portion with a plurality of cutaways spaced circumferentially about the nose portion. The copper jacket having a leading edge portion positioned at the cutaways.
Pellet shaped marking round for air rifles and pistols
A new and novel non-lethal pellet shaped marking round for use with air rifles or air pistols, which utilizes the technology and ballistics of a bullet-shaped pellet projectile, and is designed to travel through a rifled barrel or a polygonal rifling barrel. Also disclosed is a novel non-lethal marking round pellet designed with grooves which imitate the spiral caused by a rifled barrel while utilizing a smooth bore barrel.

Automatic case fed priming tool
An automatic case fed priming tool preferably includes a primer insertion device, a primer die body and a primer feed trough. The automatic case fed priming tool is preferably retained in an automatic process press. The automatic process press includes a upper die carrier and a lower die carrier. The primer insertion device preferably includes a breach lock, a moving primer platform, a primer pin and a primer compression spring. The primer die body preferably includes a pin housing, a case push pin, an ejector compression spring, a case finger guide and a case ejector. The primer feed trough preferably includes a first trough half and a second trough half. The primer insertion device is retained in the lower die carrier. The primer die body is retained in the upper die carrier. An exit end of the primer feed trough is attached to the lower die carrier.
