COORDINATE MEASURING MACHINE AND METHOD FOR COMPENSATING FOR LARGE WORKPIECE MASSES

The present invention relates to a coordinate measuring machine with a measuring system for measuring a workpiece, a carrier structure for carrying the measuring system and a base plate for supporting the workpiece. The carrier structure is movably guided in at least one direction on the base plate. The coordinate measuring machine also has a first support system with at least three supports for supporting the base plate, a second support system and a control device for controlling the second support system dependent on a force application to the first support system. The present invention also relates to a method for compensating for large workpiece masses on a coordinate measuring machine.

Method and apparatus for inspecting workpieces

A series of nominally identical production workpieces is measured on a measuring apparatus. To correct for temperature variations, one of the workpieces forms a master artifact, the dimensions of which are known. The artifact is measured on the measuring apparatus at two or more temperatures, producing two or more corresponding sets of measured dimensional values of the master artifact at the respective temperatures. One or more error maps, look-up tables, or functions are generated which relate the measured dimensional values of the artifact to the known dimensions of the artifact. The error map(s), look-up table(s) or function(s) are dependent on the respective temperatures at which the artifact was measured. Correction values derived from the error map(s), look-up table(s) or function(s) are used to correct the measurements of production workpieces in the series. These correction values are determined in dependence upon the temperature at which the workpiece measurements were obtained.

Golf club

A golf club includes a club head having a volume of greater than about 360 cm.sup.3 and a mass less than 200 g. A shaft attachable to the club head has a tip end, a butt end, and a shaft balance point distance, BP.sub.s, as measured from the butt end, of no more than 19 inches. And the golf club has a mass less than 300 g.

Methods and systems for characterizing laser machining properties by measuring keyhole dynamics using interferometry
11426816 · 2022-08-30 · ·

A method, apparatus, and system are provided to monitor and characterize the dynamics of a phase change region (PCR) created during laser welding, specifically keyhole welding, and other material modification processes, using low-coherence interferometry. By directing a measurement beam to multiple locations within and overlapping with the PCR, the system, apparatus, and method are used to determine, in real time, spatial and temporal characteristics of the weld such as keyhole depth, length, width, shape and whether the keyhole is unstable, closes or collapses. This information is important in determining the quality and material properties of a completed finished weld. It can also be used with feedback to modify the material modification process in real time.

WORKPIECE CLAMPING SYSTEM FOR A MEASURING MACHINE

A welding gauge and method of use that allows a user to measure the difference in height between a first material surface with that of a second material surface when they are welded together along the same plane or at an angle. The gauge has a first plate with a foot portion and a bottom reference edge. The first plate is connected to a second plate at an axis of rotation corresponding to a circular measurement scale located on the first plate. The gauge also has a third plate that is attachable to the second and slidably connected through vertical slots located in said second and third plates. The third plate has a bottom contact edge and tolerance indicators along its left and right edges that can align with a tolerance measurement scale located on the second plate and along the vertical slot of the second plate.
