A method for predicting variables of interest related to a system includes collecting one or more sensor streams over a time period from sensors in the system and generating one or more anomaly streams for the time period based on the sensor streams. Values for variables of interest for the time period are determined based on the sensor streams and the anomaly streams. Next, a time-series predictive algorithm is applied to the (i) the sensor streams, (ii) the anomaly streams, and (iii) the values for the variables of interest to generate a model for predicting new values for the variables of interest. The model may then be used to predict values for the variables of interest at a time within a new time period based on one or more new sensor streams.

In an embodiment, a method for commissioning a sensor via a communication unit includes scanning, by the communication unit, a sensor-identifying feature of the sensor to provide sensor-identifying data and sending, by the communication unit to a system controller, the sensor-identifying data. The method further includes receiving, by the communication unit from the system controller, one or more contextual prompts regarding a sensed object to which the sensor is operatively connected and, in response to the contextual prompts, sending, by the communication unit to the system controller, sensed object information. Thereafter, the method further comprises receiving, by the communication unit from the system controller, confirmation of commissioning of the sensor. A corresponding method in the system controller, as well as corresponding apparatus, are also described.

CURRENT LOOP TRANSMITTER CIRCUITRY FOR MONITORING A DRY CONTACT SWITCH STATE

A device includes a device input, an output connector configured to connect to a current loop, and current loop transmitter circuitry. The current loop transmitter circuitry receives, via the device input, an input from a dry contact switch, and translates a state of the dry contact switch to a current loop current. The current loop transmitter circuitry transmits the current loop current via the output connector through the current loop.

A sensor comprising a whisker shaft and a follicle is provided. The shaft has a root end and a tip end and the shaft tapers from the root end to the tip end so that the root end is wider and the tip end is narrower. The root end is pivotably mounted in the follicle.

Distributed process state and input estimation for heterogeneous active/passive sensor networks

Systems and methods are described for estimating a state of a process and an input to the process using a sensor network. Each sensor node in the sensor network is directly to one or more adjacent sensor nodes and indirectly coupled to the remaining sensor nodes through the one or more adjacent sensor nodes. Each sensor node iteratively calculates a new estimated state based on estimations of the state and the input to the process calculated by the sensor node in a previous iteration. The new estimated state is then adjusted based on a difference between a predicted and actual output of a sensor and is further adjusted based on differences between a previous estimated state calculated by the sensor node and estimated states calculated by adjacent sensor nodes.

Disclosed is a sensor arrangement on a process installation comprising at least two sensor tiles, wherein each sensor tile comprises a support and a plurality of sensors arranged on the support for determining a physical or chemical variable of a measuring medium, a process characteristic of the measuring medium, and/or a state of the process installation. A first sensor tile comprises a control unit having a transmit and receive module for data exchange with a control unit of a second sensor tile. The first control unit of the first sensor tile and/or a second control unit allocated to the sensor arrangement is designed to weight the values determined by each sensor tile. Weighting may be a function of the measured value variations of the sensor tile, the position of the sensor tile in the process installation, and/or the function of the sensor tile.

The sensor apparatus includes an outer shell configured to receive the polished rod, a signal processor within the outer shell, a position sensor within the outer shell and configured to sense and output to the signal processor a position signal, and a magnetic pickup sensor configured to sense and output to the signal processor a signal indicating a sensed magnetic field. The signal processor is configured to count a number of strokes of the polished rod based on the position signal, and to determine whether a fault exists based on the number of strokes and the signal indicating the sensed magnetic field.
