Method for evaluating protective effect against external damage to skin
The purpose of the present invention is to newly provide a method with which it is possible to appropriately evaluate the protective effect of an external preparation for skin such as a sunscreen cosmetic, particularly to evaluate how a UV-ray protective effect is affected by heat. This evaluation method is characterized by including (1) a step for forming a coating film of an external preparation for skin on a substrate, (2) a step for heat-treating the coating film of the external preparation for skin, and (3) a step for measuring the UV-ray protective effect of the heat-treated coating film of the external preparation for skin. The heat treatment is preferably carried out for at least one minute at a temperature of 30-70° C. The step for measuring the UV-ray protective effect preferably includes at least one selected from testing methods that involve comparing some kind of UV-ray protective effect with SPF measurement, UVAPF or PFA measurement, critical wavelength measurement, absorbance measurement, and transmittance measurement. This evaluation method can also be performed in vivo or in vitro.
Multiple sensor glucose concentration determination analyzer apparatus and method of use thereof
The invention comprises a method and apparatus for noninvasively determining state of a person, comprising the steps of: providing an analyzer comprising a first and second spectrometer unit and a main controller subsystem; replaceably attaching the first spectrometer unit to the person at a first illumination zone; the first spectrometer unit delivering first photons, from first illumination optics, along a first mean z-axis optical path normal to a first x/y-plane tangentially contacting the first illumination zone of the person; replaceably attaching a second spectrometer unit to the person at a second illumination zone; the second spectrometer delivering second photons, from second illumination optics, along a second mean z-axis optical path perpendicular to a second x/y-plane tangentially contacting the second illumination zone of the skin, the first x/y-plane noncoplanar with the second x/y-plane; and the main controller processing detected signals to generate at least one measure of state of the person.
SENSOR SYSTEM FOR MULTI-COMPONENT FLUIDS
A remote sampling sensor for determining characteristics of a sample includes measurement optics and an insertion probe. The measurement optics are configured to emit light and detect returned light. The insertion probe includes a chamber, the chamber being configured to permit the sample to enter the chamber, an insertion tip at a distal end of the insertion probe, and a retro-reflective optic adjacent the insertion tip. The retro-reflective optic is configured to return the light from the measurement optics through the chamber to the measurement optics. The insertion probe is configured to be remotely located from the measurement optics.

Control of industrial water treatment via digital imaging
A method of analyzing a substrate contacting a fluid present in an industrial system is provided. The method comprises creating a series of digital images of the substrate while contacting the fluid present in the industrial system. A region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is defined. A corrosion feature in the region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is identified. The corrosion feature in the region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is analyzed to determine a corrosion trend of the industrial system. In certain embodiments of the method, the fluid is industrial water, and the industrial system is an industrial water system.
HYPERSPECTRAL IMAGING FOR EARLY DETECTION OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
Described herein is the use of a visible near infrared (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging system as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Also described herein is the use of a VNIR hyperspectral imaging system in high throughput screening of potential therapeutics against AD.

Systems and methods for assisting with color selection
Systems and methods for color selection are provided. A user device displays room types on a display, receives a room type selection indicating a particular room type, displays types of feelings, and receives a type of feeling selection indicating a particular type of feeling. The user device accesses a lookup table that associates the room types and types of feelings with paint colors such that each possible combination of room type and type of feeling is associated with a subset of paint colors. The user device determines the associated subset of paint colors in the lookup table for the combination of the particular room type and the particular type of feeling and displays the associated subset of paint colors as recommended paint colors for the combination of the particular room type and the particular type of feeling on the display of the user device.

Hyperspectral sensing system and methods
A method for retrieving a corrected spectrum from a measured spectrum (e.g., retrieving a top-of-water spectrum from a measured top-of-atmosphere spectrum) includes creating a scene-specific model of a region of interest and performing a ray-tracing simulation to simulate rays of light that would reach an airborne (or spaceborne) sensor. The region of interest can be an optically complex area such as an inland or coastal body of water. Based on the ray-tracing simulation, a scene-specific correction for unwanted effects (e.g., adjacency effects, variable atmospheric conditions, and/or other suitable effects) is obtained. A corrected spectrum is obtained by correcting the measured spectrum using the scene-specific correction. The ray-tracing simulation may be performed using a graphical processing unit, allowing the scene-specific correction to be performed in real time or near real time.
