The present invention provides a defect analysis device including: an excitation unit (107) that imparts vibrations of a plurality of frequencies to a fluid (110) flowing through a pipe (108); a first detector (106) that, when the excitation part (107) is imparting vibrations, detects vibrations emanating from the pipe (108); and a signal processing unit (101) that extracts a feature quantity from a vibration waveform acquired by the first detector (106), and uses the extracted feature quantity to estimate the extent of a defect formed in the pipe (108).
Laser testing of a bond interface between two dissimilar materials
A method and apparatus for testing a bond interface is provided. The method comprises directing laser energy at a first surface of a first material connected to a second material by an adhesive at a bond interface. The first surface is opposite the bond interface. A first acoustic impedance of the first material is greater than a second acoustic impedance of the second material. The method also determines whether an inconsistency is present in the bond interface after directing the laser energy.

The present invention addresses the problem of making it possible to distinguish and detect cracking, peeling, internal cavities, and other defects through the remote observation of a structure. A status determination device according to the present invention is provided with a displacement calculation unit for calculating a two-dimensional spatial distribution of the displacement of a structure surface from time series images of the structure surface before and after load application and an abnormality determination unit for identifying flaws in the structure on the basis of a comparison of the two-dimensional spatial distribution and an already provided spatial distribution of displacement.
AN OPTICALLY-BASED INTERSTORY DRIFT METER SYSTEM FOR RAPID ASSESSMENT OF THE EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE OF BUILDING STRUCTURES
A sensor system provides measurement of building interstory drift based on a laser beam impinging on a discrete diode sensor array. The diode sensor array determines the location at which a projected laser bean strikes the array, which provides a direct measurement of interstory drift. The diode sensor array is a two dimensional array of discrete diodes that allow the location of an impinging laser beam to be very accurately tracked as the beam moves back-and-forth across the diode array. Local rotations of the laser source that result from rotations of structural members (e.g. floor beam rotation) are appropriately corrected for. This allows accurate, dynamic measurements of the interstory drift between two floor levels of a shaking building.
Wear detection for coated belt or rope
A method of wear detection of a coated belt or rope includes connecting a wear detection unit to one or more monitoring strands and/or cords of a coated belt or rope. The coated belt or rope includes one or more baseline strands and/or cords exhibiting a first change in electrical resistance as a function of bending cycles of the belt or rope and one or more monitoring strands and/or cords exhibiting a second change in electrical resistance as a function of bending cycles of the belt or rope, greater than the first change in electrical resistance. An electrical resistance of the one or more monitoring strands and/or cords is measured via the wear detection unit. Using at least the measured electrical resistance of the one or more monitoring strands and/or cords, a wear condition of the belt or rope is determined.
Systems and methods utilizing carbon nanofiber aggregate for performance monitoring of concrete structures
A carbon nanofiber aggregate (CNFA) system and method provides self-sensing capabilities that can be used to detect strain, moisture, and temperature changes. The CNFA may include cement, aggregate, silica fume, high-range water reducer (HRWR), and/or carbon nanofibers. The metal meshes in the CNFA may be utilized to monitor the electric properties of the CNFA to detect strain, moisture, and temperature changes. The CNFA may be embedded in concrete structures to allow detection of strain, moisture, and temperature changes that may cause damage to structures. Several metal meshes may be embedded in the CNFA.

A testing device for testing seals, in particular tubbing seals, which seals have at least one anchoring foot. The testing device can be easily and cost-effectively adjusted to various seals by using plates with a recess, in which correspondingly configured plate elements are detachably inserted, so that different groove shapes scan be reproduced. The recess thus acts as a kind of “universal groove”, which can be adjusted to the respective geometry of the sealing profile to be tested by means of the plate elements, if necessary with the assistance of a curing or curable material.

An interferometric vibration observation device includes a transmitting unit, a receiving unit and a signal processing unit. The transmitting unit transmits a transmission signal toward an observation object. The receiving unit receives a reflection wave from the observation object with a plurality of receiving antennas and generates a reception signal for each of the receiving antennas. The signal processing unit obtains a phase plane of the reflection wave to an antenna plane from a phase difference between the reception signals, identifies an arrival direction and a signal strength of the reflection wave, calculates a phase variation of the reflection wave from a certain direction, and generates an observation signal representative of a vibration of the observation object or a certain site of the observation object.
