CORRELATION COEFFICIENT CORRECTION METHOD, EXERCISE ANALYSIS METHOD, CORRELATION COEFFICIENT CORRECTION APPARATUS, AND PROGRAM
Disclosed are a correlation coefficient correction method, a correlation coefficient correction apparatus, and a program, capable of improving estimation accuracy of a walking velocity or a stride of a moving object, and an exercise analysis method capable of analyzing a user's exercise with high accuracy. In one aspect, the correlation coefficient correction method includes calculating a reference velocity by using a detection result in a first sensor, calculating characteristic information regarding walking of a moving object by using a detection result in a second sensor mounted on the moving object, and correcting a correlation coefficient in a correlation expression indicating a correlation between the characteristic information and a walking velocity or a stride of the moving object by using the reference velocity.
Method and apparatus for reliable detection of opening and closing events
A methods is provided for reliable and accurate detection of opening or closing of doors or drawers using output signals generated by a sensor, the output signals directly or indirectly representative of the acceleration of the sensor over time. Areas under a curve for acceleration, or representations thereof, are determined and occurrence of movement events identified through comparison of calculated areas with certain thresholds. Areas are considered which span between zero crossing points of the acceleration curve, such that all elements of the corresponding sum are of the same sign, and consequent area signals have maximal amplitude. Pairs of substantially equal and opposite area signals may be sought, occurring within a given time separation, these characteristic of an opening or closing motion, consisting of a first acceleration in a first direction followed by a second in an opposing direction. Apparatus for the reliable detection of opening or closing events is also provided.

System and method for monitoring power applied to a bicycle
A sensor system and method for monitoring power exerted by a person riding a bicycle has a pair of sensor insoles and a portable electronic device. The sensor insoles each have a plurality of force sensors, an accelerometer, and a transmitter for transmitting data from the plurality of force sensors and the accelerometer. A power measurement program operably installed in the computer memory of the portable electronic device receives the data and calculates power and other outputs based upon the data received.

Integrated sensing unit and method for determining vehicle wheel speed and tire pressure
An integrated sensing unit and method that involves wirelessly transmitting tire pressure sensor readings and wheel speed readings to a control module in a vehicle. Sensor circuitry for a tire pressure monitoring (TPM) system can be used with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) in an integrated sensing unit to facilitate the wireless transmittance of wheel speed data. In an exemplary embodiment, the wheel speed data from the integrated sensing unit provides a redundant measure of wheel speed that can prolong the availability of vehicle systems that rely upon wheel speed, despite a potential malfunction of one or more typical wheel speed sensors.

Gas dissolution prediction system and method for an aircraft shock strut
Techniques and methodologies for servicing a shock strut are provided that account for the variability in gas solubility of the shock strut while in-service. These examples incorporate knowledge of the shock strut's stoke history in order to estimate/predict the amount of gas in solution, its percentage saturation, etc. This may permit a more refined knowledge of the true servicing state of the shock strut.
