Method and Apparatus for Noise Control in Ultrasonic Sensors

The adjustable voltage regulator under control of a microcontroller applies controlled amplitude voltage in the range of 5 to 9VDC to the sensor transmitter to adjust the output amplitude of the transmitter. The adjustable amplitude transmitter allows an occupancy sensor to have its total output energy adjusted to reduce environmental noise-induced false triggering and to conform to the area to be covered. Lowering the total ultrasonic energy in the monitored space lowers the sensitivity of the receiver to inappropriate activations. Lowering the input power to the transmitter also lowers the total internal system noise and provides an improved signal to noise ratio in the receiver.

Various embodiments herein relate to systems and methods for detecting seismic events. Systems may include inertial sensors distributed on or in communication with a network of optically switchable windows in the building. In some systems, inertial sensors are located within a window controller, within an insulated glass unit, or in some way rigidly attached to the structure of a building. Logic is described for leveraging sensed inertial data to predicted a seismic event and/or evaluate the structural health of the building. In some cases, logic may be used to issue an alert to building occupants about impending shear waves that will arrive at the building's location. In some cases, a window network may respond to a detected seismic event by, e.g., changing the optical state of windows and/or providing occupants with evacuation instructions.

Dual frequency ultrasonic and sonic actuator with constrained impact mass

A dual frequency ultrasonic and sonic actuator with constrained impact mass is presented. According to one aspect, displacement of the impact mass is constrained by cavity to which ultrasonic stress from the tip of a horn is applied. According to another aspect, the displacement of the impact mass is constrained by a spring attached to the tip of the horn. According to another aspect, the displacement of the impact mass is constrained by a flexure. The constrained impact mass converts the ultrasonic stress to lower frequency sonic stress that is coupled to a transmitting element for transmission through a surface. According to one aspect, the transmitting element is a longitudinal probe. According to another aspect, the transmitting element is a drill bit used to penetrate though the surface. According to another aspect, the transmitting element is a thumper used to transmit elastic waves though the surface.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING DEPLOYED CABLES

In some implementations, a system may receive a cable map for a deployed cable. The system may receive vibration data indicating a vibration associated with a first section of the cable. The system may determine a characteristic associated with the first section of the cable based on the vibration. The system may determine a location associated with the characteristic based on the cable map. The system may determine that the first section of the cable is associated with the location based on the location being associated with the characteristic. The system may associate the location and a length of a second section of the cable extending from an initial location to the location. The system may receive an input identifying the length of the second section of the cable and may output the location based on associating the location and the length of the second section of the cable.
