An image forming apparatus includes a controller that causes an image reading device to suspend reading a source document, when a decider decides that a shortage value of a source image is equal to or larger than a first threshold, causes a display device to display a message that the first threshold is changed to a predetermined second threshold larger than the first threshold, stores the source image, or causes the image forming device to form the source image, when a reading resuming instruction, to resume reading the source document at least including the source document the reading of which has been suspended, is received by an operation device, and when the decider decides that the shortage value of the source image is smaller than the second threshold, and causes, when there is a next source document, the image reading device to read the next source document.

A sheet binding processing apparatus including a processing tray, a sheet positioning device, a first binding device, a second binding device, a driving device which moves the second binding device to a binding position where the sheets positioned by the sheet positioning device are to be bound and to a retracting position for retracting to the outside of the sheets positioned by the sheet positioning device, and a controller which controls the driving device and causes the second binding device to be located at the retracting position when the first binding device binds sheets.

A sheet processing apparatus includes a saddle unit on which a mountain-folded sheet folded along a folding line is accumulated so as to straddle the saddle unit, a staple inserting section disposed above the saddle unit, and a staple receiving section accommodated in the saddle unit. The staple inserting section includes an inserting unit which inserts a staple into the folding lines of the sheets, and holding members disposed on both sides of the inserting unit in a direction parallel to the folding lines of the sheets. The staple receiving section includes a staple receiving unit which receives and bends the tips of the staple inserted by the inserting unit, and supporting members disposed on both sides of the staple receiving unit at positions opposite to the holding members.

An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body including an image forming unit, a unit detachably attached to the apparatus body, a first rotary member provided in the unit, a second rotary member provided in the apparatus body and configured to be coupled with and decoupled from the first rotary member by being moved in a rotation axial direction of the first rotary member, and a restriction member provided in the apparatus body and movable to a first position and a second position. The restriction member includes an engaging portion configured to engage with the second rotary member and is configured to move the second rotary member by the engaging portion so that the second rotary member is decoupled from the first rotary member along with a move of the restriction member from the first position to the second position.

A sheet feeding device includes a driving roller, a driven roller rotated by the rotation of the driving roller, a non-conductive feeding guide, a conductive frame, a conductive bearing and an urging member to urge the driven roller toward the driving roller. The feeding guide includes a supporting portion to displaceably support the rotation shaft in an urging direction. The frame includes a positioning portion to position the driven roller in the urging direction by contact with the rotation shaft in a state in which the driving roller is urged by the driven roller.

A method for reducing image burn-in artifacts in an electrophotographic printing system, includes receiving a print job including image data for a set of pages to be printed. The pages are analyzed to determine that the image data for a sequence of pages in the print job are similar. The similar pages are printed using a pattern of lateral translations wherein the image data is laterally translated such that it is printed at a different lateral position on the printed page.

A sheet conveying device includes a sheet placement table, a sheet discharge table, a conveyance mechanism, raising/lowering mechanism, and a raising/lowering control portion. The sheet discharge table is located below the sheet placement table. The conveyance mechanism conveys a sheet placed on the sheet placement table onto the sheet discharge table via an execution position at which image processing is executed by an image processing portion. The raising/lowering mechanism raises and lowers the sheet placement table. The raising/lowering control portion controls the raising/lowering mechanism to raise and lower the sheet placement table to a target position that is determined in accordance with a size of the sheet on the sheet discharge table.

A method for reducing image burn-in artifacts in an electrophotographic printing system, includes receiving a print job including image data for a set of pages to be printed. The pages are analyzed to determine that the image data for a sequence of pages in the print job are similar. The similar pages are printed using a pattern of page orientations including a first page orientation and a second page orientation, wherein the image data for the second page orientation is rotated 180 degrees relative to the image data for the first page orientation.

A medium transportation apparatus includes a transportation portion for transporting a medium; a first structure unit for forming a first transportation path to guide and transport the medium in a first direction from an upstream side in a medium transportation direction toward a downstream side in the medium transportation direction; and a second structure unit for forming an accommodation space to accommodate a part of the first structure unit. The first structure unit includes a first region disposed outside the accommodation space on the downstream side in the medium transportation direction and a second region disposed inside the accommodation space on the upstream side in the medium transportation direction.

An image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes a control unit 111 which performs white paper cleaning by making remaining papers pass through a fixing device in automatic purge of conveying and discharging the remaining papers after an originating paper having caused a jam is removed when the jam has occurred in a paper conveyance path, and display units 115 and 111 which display the number of papers, which is obtained by subtracting the number of the papers having passed through the fixing device by the control unit for the white paper cleaning in the automatic purge from the set number of papers set in advance as the number of papers required to pass through the fixing device in the white paper cleaning, as the number of papers set for white paper cleaning after the automatic purge.
