An image forming apparatus includes a drive source, an object configured to be driven by the drive source, and a drive transmission mechanism including a driving member, a driven member, an intermediate member, an urging member, and an actuating portion. The intermediate member is configured to move in an axial direction. The intermediate member includes a shaft portion extending in the axial direction, and a positioning portion configured to determine a position of the driven member in a direction orthogonal to the axis. The shaft portion includes a receiving portion configured to receive a force. The receiving portion is positioned inward of the positioning portion in a radial direction of rotation of the intermediate member.

A processor causes a printing portion to execute, when first conveying processing is executed, test print processing for executing processing of forming a plurality of test toner images on a sheet under a print condition that differs for each of the plurality of test toner images. The processor acquires a plurality of first sensing densities when the first conveying processing is executed. The processor causes the printing portion to execute the test print processing when second conveying processing is executed. The processor acquires a plurality of second sensing densities when the second conveying processing is executed. The processor compares the plurality of first sensing densities and the plurality of second sensing densities to adjust the print condition in the print processing when the second conveying processing is executed.

An image forming system that is capable of forming an image onto a sheet on a basis of print image data including multiple image data items imposed in such a manner as to be suitable for middle-folding and saddle-stitching and outputting a booklet by performing middle-folding and saddle-stitching includes: a storing unit that stores beforehand, as an output-processing content table, an inclination direction of a compilation tray onto which a stack of sheets that is to be subjected to imposition processing for pages or a facing page of the booklet and the middle-folding and saddle-stitching is placed; and a processing unit that generates the print image data by acquiring information of the inclination direction of the compilation tray, referencing to the output-processing content table, and performing the imposition processing.

Method for operating a printing machine with a processor

A method for operating a printing machine having a processor and a device for detecting features of printing substrates includes storing print jobs with the printing substrates appropriate thereto in a database. Features of at least one printing substrate are detected by using the device. The detected features of the at least one printing substrate are compared by the processor with the printing substrates of the print jobs from the database. The processor selects at least one print job in which the printing substrates of the print jobs from the database correspond to the at least one detected printing substrate or attain a predefined similarity. The at least one print job selected by the processor is subsequently executed on the printing machine.

A drawer includes: a photosensitive drum; a drawer frame; a connector; a drawer memory; and a holder. The photosensitive drum is rotatable about a drum axis extending in a first direction. The drawer frame holds the photosensitive drum. The drawer frame has an outer surface. The connector has a plurality of terminals arrayed in an arraying direction. The drawer memory stores information on the photosensitive drum. The drawer memory is electrically connectable to at least one of the plurality of terminals. The holder is positioned at the outer surface of the drawer frame and holds the connector. The holder is movable relative to the drawer frame in the arraying direction of the plurality of terminals.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion, a reversing portion configured to reverse the sheet received through a first feeding passage by feeding the sheet in a first direction and then in a second direction opposite to the first direction, a sheet feeding portion provided in a second feeding passage branching from the first feeding passage on a side upstream of the reversing portion with respect to the first direction, a first guiding surface forming the second feeding passage for guiding a first surface of the sheet fed by the feeding portion, and a second guiding surface for guiding a second surface, opposite from the first surface, of the sheet fed from the reversing portion in the second direction. The second guiding surface is movable with movement of the first guiding surface for opening the second feeding passage.

Upon power-up, a controller causes a first conveyor roller to rotate but if the first cover is in the open position, when a sheet sensor detects a sheet, the controller does not cause a second conveyor roller to rotate, and causes a flapper to swing from a first position to a second position, and when a front end of the sheet reaches a position downstream of an upstream end of the flapper in a conveyance direction of the sheet conveyed by the first conveyor roller, the controller causes the flapper to swing from the second position to the first position.

An upstream edge of the facing surface in the moving direction is located at a position farther from the rotation axis, in the particular direction, than a downstream edge of the upstream guide surface.
