CAPACITIVE GAP SENSOR RING FOR AN INPUT DEVICE
20200110473 · 2020-04-09 ·

An input mechanism for a portable electronic device includes a rotational manipulation mechanism, such as a cap or shaft. The input mechanism also includes a sensor having first capacitive elements coupled to the manipulation mechanism, second capacitive elements, and a dielectric positioned between the first and second capacitive elements. Movement of the manipulation mechanism alters the positions of the first and second capacitive elements with respect to each other and is determinable based on capacitance changes resulting therefrom. In some implementations, the second capacitive elements may be part of an inner ring or partial ring nested at least partially within an outer ring or partial ring.

Symbiotic Smartwatch Displays

Aspects of the technology provide a symbiotic graphical display on a client device such as a smartwatch. The system includes at least one emissive display element and at least one non-emissive display element. The display elements are arrayed in layers or other configurations such that content or other information is concurrently aligned across the respective display surfaces of the different elements. A first set of content is rendered using the non-emissive display element while a second set of content is rendered using the emissive display element. Depending on characteristics or features of a given content item, that item may be rendered by one or both of the display elements. Certain content may be transitioned from the emissive display element to the non-emissive display element according to a time threshold or other criteria.

Wearable electronic device

The described technology relates to a wearable electronic device. The wearable electronic device may include a touch display, a rim surrounding the touch display, a rim touch sensor disposed on at least a portion of the rim, a band portion that allows the wearable electronic device to be worn on a user's wrist, and a control unit configured to receive a rim touch on the rim through the rim touch sensor and generate a control signal for controlling the wearable electronic device based on at least one of attributes of the rim touch.

Provided are a timepiece movement and a timepiece allowing mounting of a wireless communication device in the timepiece and capable of avoiding generation of restrictions to the design of the timepiece. A movement is arranged on the inner side of a timepiece case having a case back, and drives indicator hands. The movement uses an electric wave from the outside as a power source and is equipped with an RFID tag communicating with an external reader.

Watch

A watch including: a first drive mechanism including a hand having a rotational axis along a first direction, a wheel train, and a drive power source; and a second drive mechanism including a hand having a rotational axis along a second direction different from the first direction, a wheel train, and a drive power source, wherein the first drive mechanism and the second drive mechanism are mounted separately. Each of the first direction and the second direction is defined along a normal direction to dial at a position of a rotational axis of the hand.

WATCH CROWN HAVING A CONDUCTIVE SURFACE
20200064779 · 2020-02-27 ·

An electronic device, such as a watch, has an input mechanism, such as a crown, that may receive translational inputs, rotational inputs, and/or touch inputs. Inputs received at the crown may result in changes in operation of the electronic device and/or outputs, such as graphical outputs, provided by the electronic device. In various embodiments, the crown includes a retainer that couples an outer crown body to an inner crown body and secures an isolator between the outer crown body and the inner crown body. The embodiments of the crown described herein provide a simple and robust input mechanism for receiving rotational, translational, and touch inputs as described above, while simplifying part alignment, ensuring consistent rotation, and allowing for efficient manufacturing.

CONDUCTIVE CAP FOR WATCH CROWN
20200064774 · 2020-02-27 ·

An electronic device, such as a watch, has a crown assembly having a shaft and a user-rotatable crown. The user-rotatable crown may include a conductive cap that is mechanically and electrically coupled to the shaft and functions as an electrode. The conductive cap may be coupled to the shaft using solder or another conductive attachment mechanism. The shaft may electrically couple the conductive cap to a processing unit of the electronic device. One or more additional electrodes may be positioned on the exterior surface of the electronic device. The conductive cap is operable to be contacted by a finger of a user of the electronic device while another electrode is positioned against skin of the user. The processing unit of the electronic device is operable to determine a biological parameter, such as an electrocardiogram, of the user based on voltages at the electrodes.

Force-detecting input structure

An input mechanism, such as a crown, detects amounts of applied force. In various examples, an assembly including an input mechanism has an enclosure; a stem coupled to the enclosure such that the stem is rotatable, translatable, and transversely moveable with respect to the enclosure; a sensor, coupled between the stem and the housing, to which force is transferred when the stem moves with respect to the housing; and a processing unit coupled to the sensor. The processing unit is operable to determine a measurement of the force, based on a signal from the sensor.
