User Interface for Recipe Creation
A user interface for a beer recipe creator may have a series of icons that may represent ingredients. A user may drag and drop or otherwise add the icons to containers on a display screen to add or remove ingredients to the recipe. With each added or removed ingredient, a set of descriptors may be updated. The descriptors may include numerical values of beer parameters as well as textual descriptions and visual descriptions. The system may allow a user to start with a desired beer style, and the parameters may show variances from the selected style. The system may generate an ingredients list, as well as a brewing recipe that may be transferred to a controller for a beer making machine. The system may adjust certain parameters that are controllable by the beer making machine to make flavor and other adjustments selected by a user.
User Interface Components to Change Brewing Recipes
An automated or semi-automated beer brewing system may adjust recipes using a computer interface. The computer interface may present different characteristics of a beer and may allow a user to adjust the characteristics of the resulting beer. In many cases, the characteristics of the final product may be changed while keeping the original ingredients and their measurements the same. Characteristics such as mouthfeel may be adjusted from thick to thin by adjusting a mashing schedule to change the alpha amylase extraction. In another example, a characteristic of dry to malty may be adjusted by changing the amount of simple sugars that may be extracted during the mashing phase. A computer interface may present the characteristics in an interactive form, such as a slider, where a user may adjust the recipe prior to use.

Carbon monoxide detection system
In some examples, a method includes receiving, from a carbon-monoxide (CO) sensor, an indication of an above-threshold level of CO for an above-threshold amount of time; determining, from a plurality of appliances, a subset of appliances associated with the CO sensor; and deactivating the subset of appliances.
Load reduction optimization
Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for performing load reduction optimization. In one aspect, a method includes accessing load reduction parameters for a load reduction event, accessing energy consumption models for multiple systems involved in the load reduction event, and performing, based on the load reduction parameters and the energy consumption models, a plurality of simulations of load reduction events that simulate variations in control parameters used to control the multiple systems. The method also includes optimizing, against a load reduction curve, the load reduction event by iteratively modifying the control parameters used in the plurality of simulations of load reduction events, and outputting the optimal load reduction event with optimized control parameters.
Enhancing flow cytometry discrimination with geometric transformation
In flow cytometry, particles (2) can be distinguished between populations (8) by combining n-dimensional parameter data, which may be derived from signal data from a particle, to mathematically achieve numerical results representative of an alteration (48). An alteration may include a rotational alteration, a scaled alteration, or perhaps even a translational alteration. Alterations may enhance separation of data points which may provide real-time classification (49) of signal data corresponding to individual particles into one of at least two populations.
Systems and methods for updating a mobile application
The present invention provides systems and methods for providing cross-device native functionality for a native app. More specifically, the invention is directed to a JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) data exchange format for use with a native app running on a user's mobile device, wherein the exchange format is configured to improve user experience and interaction with the app. The present invention may be particularly useful in a mobile-based crowdsourcing platform in which data is continually exchanged between remote user devices and a cloud-based service for collecting and managing user-driven data based on user interaction with native apps on their devices.
Wireless sensing and control of temperature using magnetic fields
A method and system for sensing and controlling temperature with magnetic fields are provided. The method comprises placing a compound in thermal communication with a number of temperature or heat sources and placing a number of magnets in thermal communication with the compound. A number of magnetic sensors are placed in electromagnetic communication with the number of magnets. Changes in the magnetic field of the magnets are detected by the sensors and used to determine the temperature of the compound according to a model that maps magnetic field characteristics to temperature. The amount of cure of the compound can then be estimated from the temperature. The temperature or heat sources are controlled in response to the temperature measurement and the estimated amount of cure of the compound.
