A management system for a Permitting Authorities (PA) or their appointed designee to monitor and track application-based commercial ground transportation (ABCT) providers activities within electronically-enabled geo-fenced areas associated with the PAs, all without the need for specialized hardware such as transponders or other tracking equipment. ABCT Providers transmit location and/or transaction information for ABCT Vehicles within geo-fenced areas associated with the PAs to a clearinghouse. The clearinghouse parses the location and/or transaction information to identify the corresponding PA. The clearinghouse transmits the received information to the corresponding PAs in near real-time and periodically creates invoices for each PA based on the activities taken place within the respective goes-fenced areas.

ARRANGING PASSENGER TRIPS FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES

Aspects of the disclosure provide for arranging a trip in an autonomous vehicle without a driver. For instance, a request may be received from a client computing device associated with a first person to arrange the trip for a second person. The request may include a pickup location for the second person and a destination location for the second person. An authentication method may be identified for the trip. A signal may be sent to the autonomous vehicle in order to cause the autonomous vehicle to maneuver to the pickup location, authenticate the second person using the authentication method, and transport the second person to the destination location.

Airspace tolling

A system for airspace tolling determines a presence of an aerial vehicle in a monitored airspace and determines a unique identity of the aerial vehicle. The system then determines an operator of the aerial vehicle and accesses an account associated with the operator. The system applies a charge to the account of the operator in response to the detection and identification of the aerial vehicle in the monitored airspace.

A parking meter is described that comprises components for providing parking meter functionality and a display for displaying parking information and a metal housing for protecting the parking meter components from an environment that has a display aperture through which the display is visible. The parking meter also comprises an antenna for a contactless payment reader arranged in or on the parking meter in close proximity to the display.
