A banknote processing device comprises a banknote transport path defined at least in part by a transport plate on one side of the banknote transport path, the banknote transport plate being pivotally mounted about a first axis near an upstream end of the transport plate, the transport plate including a working position and an open position, a display assembly being pivotally mounted about a second axis spaced a defined distance apart from the first axis, the display assembly including an operational position and a non-operational position, and a linkage coupled to display assembly and to the transport plate near a downstream end of the transport plate, wherein, when the display assembly is rotated from the operational position to the non-operational position, the linkage causes the transport plate to move from the working position to the open position.

A valuable medium handling apparatus configured to handle a plurality of types of valuable media. The valuable medium handling apparatus includes an inlet configured to deposit the plurality of types of valuable media, a setting unit configured to set the types of the valuable media being handled by the apparatus as a first type or a second type, a determination unit configured to determine whether a type of each of the valuable media deposited in the inlet is the first type or the second type based on the setting result of the setting unit and determine whether the valuable medium determined as the first type is a genuine medium or a counterfeit medium, and a plurality of stackers configured to stack the valuable medium of the type determined by the determination unit, the plurality of stackers including a first stacker and a second stacker.

A sheet handling apparatus includes a transport path that includes a first path, a second path, and a curved portion connecting the first path and the second path, the transport path circularly transports a sheet along the transport path in a forward direction or a backward direction. The sheet handling apparatus further includes a rolling body that is disposed at the curved portion and rotates clockwise and counterclockwise, and a plurality of rollers that are opposed to the rolling body and sandwich the sheet between each of the plurality of rollers and the rolling body along the curved portion of the transport path. The rolling body transports the sheet in the forward direction by rotating clockwise and transports the sheet in the backward direction by rotating counterclockwise.

A medium conveyance route switching device includes a support unit, a gate assembly, and a rotation mechanism. The support unit is located at a branching point of a first conveyance path, a second conveyance path and a third conveyance path where conveyance directions of a medium converge in three directions. The gate assembly includes a first to a third gate positioned on one ends of the first to the third conveyance path to guide at the branching point the medium to other conveyance paths than a conveyance path from which the medium is conveyed. The rotation mechanism includes a first actuator rotating the first gate to switch the medium conveyed from the first conveyance path to the second conveyance path or the third conveyance path, and a second actuator, when the first gate is rotated, rotating the second gate and the third gate in associated with the second gate.

A medium handling apparatus includes a first memory device that is tamper resistant, a second memory device that stores a plurality of executable instructions, and a processor. The first memory device includes a first memory area that stores pieces of verification information, used for verification of validity of the plurality of executable instructions, as a list which enables a search for particular verification information by version of an executable instruction, and a second memory area that stores identification information for identifying a piece of verification information of an executable version of the executable instruction from the list. Disclosed herein are currency handling devices, systems, and methods of their operation to reduce jamming. The currency handling devices may make use of bank note recycling, in which received notes are stored on a drum recycler and subsequently dispensed. The devices and methods may move notes from the drum recycler to either an escrow section or into a storage area, based on an amount of wear or deformation of the notes. Notes moved into the escrow section may subsequently be replaced on the drum recycler. The methods may be initiated manually, on a scheduled basis, based on sensor readings, or otherwise.

A cash handling machine comprising: a cash handling mechanism for receiving physical articles including cash, sensing equipment for sensing the articles, processing equipment processors, and memory storing code arranged to run on the processing equipment. The code comprises multiple neural networks arranged in a series ordered from first to last, each trained to classify which of a respective set of classes the articles belong to based on the sensed data. The set of classes of each respective neural network comprises a different respective subset of one or more respective recognized classes classifying a respective one or more types of cash recognised by the respective neural network, and further comprising an unrecognized class into which all other articles other than the respective recognized types are classified. For each article, the code starts with the first neural network in the series, using each network in turn to try to recognize the article.

A medium processing device includes a first, second and third conveyance path, a classification section, a first, second and third switching unit, a first, second and third storage box and a controller. Each of the first, second and third conveyance paths has two ends. One end of the first conveyance path is connected to one end of the third conveyance path. One end of the second conveyance path is connected to the other end of the third conveyance path at a second side of the classification section opposite to the first side. The other end of the first conveyance path is connected to the other end of the second conveyance path. A determination unit (51) is provided for determining whether or not money has been sent into the money depositing/dispensing machine (30) from all the storage cassettes (40) to which money has been sent from the money change machine (20) when a plurality of the storage cassettes (40) are used in a collection process.
