A disease management system and therapeutic hub are provided. In certain embodiments, a dispensing apparatus used as part of a compliance monitoring system for the disease management system can function as a therapeutic hub that interacts with a plurality of peripheral devices to accumulate, communicate, and analyze a variety of medical and non-medical related data of the patient.

The identification device is configured to be brought in connection with the organizer so that at least some of the detecting members are aligned with at least some of the seats of the organizer, wherein at least those dispensing units, which are aligned with at least one detecting member, can be identified by means of detecting signals generated on the basis of dispensing data in the data processing device.

A vending machine for selling or dispensing products or items to a user may include a container for storing and displaying the products. The container may have a transparent portion making the products visible from outside the container, and an aperture for removing one or more products by hand, wherein the aperture gives direct access to the products. An aperture access enabling device may selectively enable or prevent access through the aperture into the container. Finally, a recognition module for recognizing each of the products in the container, may include at least one module selected from the group consisting of: a camera based object recognition module, a weight recognition module, and an RFID recognition module. A system for packaging dosed quantities of solid drug portions comprises a plurality of dosing stations for dispensing a dosed quantity of solid drug portions, a plurality of guiding ducts, a plurality of collecting containers for receiving drug portions guided through the guiding ducts, and at least one discharge and packaging station for transferring drug portions collected by each collecting container to a packaging and for closing the packaging. The guiding ducts are coupled to a transport means for moving the guiding ducts along the dosing stations, wherein each guiding duct is adapted to receive drug portions dispensed from at least one of the dosing stations when the guiding duct is positioned at the at least one dosing station, and to guide the received drug portions to an passage opening of the guiding duct. The collecting containers are also coupled to the transport means so that each collecting container can be positioned at the passage opening of one of the guiding ducts to receive drug portions guided through the guiding duct.

A system and method for control of prescription drug packaging and dispensing machines located in an in-patient health care facility including centralized control and enhanced communication between system components. Delay and errors in processing item data in the prescription dispensing system are reduced by using concise ID data incorporated into each canister memory chip and storing canister contents data elsewhere. Canisters are configured in a pharmacy using interchangeable parts. Data being processed is synchronized by a combination of user tokens (who), data identifiers (what), and unique Ids for the entities in the system (where). The foregoing combination enables substantial efficiency improvements and error reduction.
