Described herein are embodiments of sensorized spherical input and output devices, systems, and methods for capturing gestural input from a user's physical interactions with a spherical device, including tossing, bouncing and spinning. In one embodiment, the spherical input and output device includes force sensors in a configuration to capture a variety of user gestures with the sphere. A microprocessor receives sensor input and transmits the sensor data to receiving devices which include computer software to translate the sensor signals to audio output, visual output, or various functions on receiving devices. Embodiments of the invention include the integration of inertial measurement units (IMUs), which may include a combination of accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers to capture complex user gestures involving motion, direction and spin of the sensorized sphere in three dimensional space.

Teaching vocal harmonies

Method of teaching a vocal harmony involves a computing device which automatically generates a plurality of audio presentations of a musical composition in a predetermined series. Each audio presentation in the series is different from the other audio presentations in the series and is configured to assist the user in progressively learning the selected vocal harmony part. Each of the plurality of audio presentations in the predetermined series is made different from others of the audio presentation in the predetermined series by selectively controlling (1) the particular ones of the plurality of vocal harmony parts that are included in each of the audio presentations, and/or (2) a magnitude of an audio volume that is applied to each of the plurality of vocal harmony parts that is included in each of the audio presentations.

Methods and systems of music notation for visually representing music that provide a visual scale representing a range of an auditory scale of a portion of a musical composition spanning at least four and a half steps. The visual scale may comprise a plurality of whole-step segments each representing one whole step in the auditory scale. Each whole-step segment may be approximately a first height. The visual scale may also comprise one or more half-step segments each representing one half step in the auditory scale. Each half-step segment may be approximately a second height. A first ratio representing the first height divided by the second height may be significantly greater than a second ratio representing the whole step divided by the half step.
