Assisting learners based on analytics of in-session cognition
An approach is provided that detect a section of a document that is currently being read by a user on a display device as well as the user's current emotional state. In response to determining, based on the detected current emotional state, that reading assistance would be helpful to the user, the approach identifies terminology within the section of the document that is currently being read by the user, retrieves assistive texts related to the identified terminology, and provides the assistive texts to the user at the display screen.
Educational game and method of making same
A game and a method for making it, according to certain disclosed embodiments, may include a playfield for allowing a rollable device for moving along its surface. Playfield guides may direct the rollable device along a path of travel. Three or more target goals on the playfield may receive the rollable device as its final destination. Decision making devices mounted movably on the playfield may adjust manually selectively the path of travel, and each have an entrance structure and two or more exit structures. Decision making device guides direct the rollable device from the entrances to selected ones of the exits. Wherein the rollable device moves along a selected path of travel including user selected entrances and user selected exits of a series of decision making devices to a user selected target goal.
Systems and methods for protocol for animated read along text
A system and method for displaying emphasized text are described. A line of text having multiple words is displayed successively emphasized at the pace of human speech. Each of the words is displayed in a first state. The emphasized word is then displayed in a second state as having an outline. Next, the emphasized word is displayed in a third state as heavier-weighted text. Finally, the emphasized word is displayed in a fourth state as regular text. The words are visually emphasized one at a time such that a first word is displayed in the third state when a second word is displayed in the second state and the first word is displayed from the third state to the fourth state when the second word is displayed from the second state to the third state and a third word is displayed in the second state.
System and Method for Evaluating Reading Comprehension
A method for evaluating reading comprehension is provided. The method includes the steps of providing at least one printed passage of text; providing a test subject, the test subject wearing a device for measuring brain frontal lobe usage; requiring the test subject to read the printed passage; providing a question based on the printed passage for the test subject to answer; and determining whether the device measures brain frontal lobe usage. A system for performing the method is also provided.
Method and apparatus for outputting information
Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a method and apparatus for outputting information. The method includes: outputting a to-be-read audio in response to receiving a reading instruction from a user; acquiring an actually read audio obtained by reading the to-be-read audio by the user; performing speech recognition on the actually read audio to obtain a recognition result; calculating a similarity between the actually read audio and the to-be-read audio based on a character string corresponding to the recognition result and a character string corresponding to the to-be-read audio; determining, from a predetermined set of similarity intervals, a similarity interval to which the calculated similarity belongs; and outputting a reading evaluation corresponding to the determined similarity interval. The embodiment may help a reader to improve the learning efficiency and learning interest, thereby improving the rate of a user using a device.
Visual acuity measurement apparatus
Provided herein are devices, systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for determining a visual acuity of a reader. The device includes a display adapted to present a first line of text to the reader and an input device adapted to receive signals corresponding to the first line of text. The device further includes a processor that is adapted to determine a reading score associated with the first line of text, generate an acuity parameter based on the reading score and the first readability vector, and determine the visual acuity of the reader based on the acuity parameter and a reference acuity parameter.
INTERACTIVE PHONICS GAME SYSTEM AND METHOD
A system for encouraging a child to learn to read, comprising a computing device and at least one physical manipulative, wherein the computing device can identify the physical manipulative and display at least one word relating to the physical manipulative. In an embodiment, a letter identification board with letter manipulatives is included, wherein a child can spell out a word on the letter identification board and the computing device shows an animation of the physical manipulative performing the action indicated by the word.
Finger reading method and device based on visual gestures
A finger reading method and device based on visual gestures. A user makes a circle on a required finger reading region on a book by using a finger; a camera captures the circle making action of the finger, and an image processing module acquires the position a fingertip according to a profile analysis algorithm, acquires the endpoints of the track edge in upper, lower, left and right directions, and fits a rectangle according to the upper, lower, left and right end points in order to identify content such as characters or graphs of rectangular region content. A voice synthesis technology is performed. Voice information is fed to the user to realize a finger reading functions. The device can be worn on the head of the user, and includes camera and bone conduction earphones arranged on both sides thereof.
DEVICE AND PROGRAM FOR PERFORMING NEW TRAINING
This device is provided with a means for flash displaying a reversed text or image, an inverted text or image, or an inverted and reversed text or image in flash mode. In one embodiment, this device is furthermore provided with a means for causing a user to undergo book-reading training. In one embodiment, the means for causing a user to undergo book-reading training may include a means for displaying a page of a book, a means for displaying a marker on the page of the book, and a means for causing the display position of the marker to change at a prescribed time interval.
System, method and computer program product for determining a decodability index for one or more words
Described herein are methods, systems and computer program products for determining a decodability index for one or more words. One of the methods of determining a decodability index for one or more words comprises receiving one or more words for analysis; analyzing the received one or more words using a plurality of effects; and assigning a decodability index to the received one or more words based on the analysis of the received one or more words using the plurality of effects, wherein the assigned decodability index indicates an ability of a person to pronounce or sound out the one or more words.
