Dental Apparatus For Restricting Tongue Movement During Examinations And Procedures
20200323611 · 2020-10-15 ·

An apparatus for restricting tongue movement during a dental procedure comprises a base for positioning the apparatus behind a lower set of teeth on a lower jaw within an oral cavity, a first wing for restricting movement of a tongue positioned vertically, and a second vertically positioned wing that also restricts movement of the tongue in coordination with the first wing. The herein disclosed dental apparatus is intended to be used during dental examinations or dental procedures when it is advantageous for the dental professional to restrict movement of the patient's tongue so that the tongue does not interfere with the procedure. In a preferred embodiment, at least the base of the dental apparatus is formed of a material that is able to absorb saliva and thus provide an additional moisture-wicking advantage to keep a portion of the oral cavity drier and relatively free of saliva, blood, or water. In a preferred embodiment, all components of the herein disclosed dental apparatus are formed of disposable materials.

ORAL RETRACTION DEVICES AND METHODS

An oral retraction device comprises a tongue depressor blade, an articulation assembly constructed and arranged to articulate the tongue depressor blade with at least three degrees of freedom, and a support element constructed and arranged to provide a stabilizing force to the articulation assembly during articulation of the tongue depressor blade.

IMPROVEMENTS TO INTRA-ORAL DEVICE FOR PROTECTING ORAL TISSUES DURING RADIATION TREATMENT
20200316401 · 2020-10-08 · ·

An intra-oral device for positioning oral tissues during medical treatment, for example, radiation treatment. The device includes upper and lower dental arch members configured to engage the maxillary and mandibular teeth or edentulous arch(es) of a patient, respectively. Moldable material is maintained within channels formed in the dental arch members by partially extruding the material through keyways formed in the arch members during the bite mold process. The upper and lower dental arch members are operatively coupled to provide a dental arch assembly. A protective element to displace or depress a patients tongue is secured at a suitable working position with respect to the dental arch assembly via a threaded strut adjustably coupled between the protective element and a support structure disposed between the dental arch members.

APPARATUS FOR TISSUE ABLATION USING RADIOFREQUENCY ENERGY AND METHOD OF USE

An apparatus for tissue ablation using radiofrequency energy comprises a housing extending from a first end to a second end. One or more pipes extend from the first end and each of the one or more pipes terminates at a tip. Each tip includes a light source operable to provide light. The apparatus further comprises a probe extending from some of the one or more pipes. Each probe is operable to deliver RF energy and to extend from or retract into the tip.

IMPROVED SURGICAL MOUTH GAG
20200288958 · 2020-09-17 ·

The present invention describes an improved surgical mouth gag for the exposure of the palatal and oropharyngeal region of a patient comprising a frame (2) adapted to be arranged in use around the mouth of the patient and a tongue depressor system (21, 30) insertable in the oral cavity of the patient and movable with respect to the frame (2), the tongue depressor blade (21, 30) comprising two elements articulated to each other, able to mobilise fully in a graduated way the entire tongue base both in the caudal and posterior-anterior direction. The metal arch (2) supports and anchors the aforesaid tongue depressor system, by resting on the upper premolar and molar teeth (respecting the incisors) and acts as an anterior window adapted to guarantee both optimal exposure of the palatal structures and of the isthmus of the fauces and to facilitate palatal and oropharyngeal surgery in general and that of obstructive sleep disorders in particular.

Dental retractor

To accurately acquire an image of an inside of an oral cavity of a person to be treated, there is provided a dental retractor including a retracting base portion that includes an inner retracting portion extending in an arch-shaped profile to surround an inner portion of gum at any one side of an upper jaw and a lower jaw inside an oral cavity and having a pressing holding portion formed at an outer peripheral surface so that a tongue is accommodated therein and an outer retracting portion integrally extending from both ends of the inner retracting portion and extending in an arch-shaped profile to surround an outer portion of the gum, and a handle portion including a grip portion connected outward from the retracting base portion.
